Ranma Saotome awoke and suddenly realized that there was not a girl in bed with him.
Ordinarily, this would not have been any great revelation, but seeing as this was his honeymoon, it was not what he had expected to awake to. For an instant, he was worried, but then he heard to sound of his wife - it was odd to think of her like that - humming from downstairs.
Ranma sat up in bed, shaking his head to clear it of the last remnants of sleep. If he'd realized that getting married meant not being woken up by his father, he would have leapt at the first opportunity for it.
Not long later, as he finished dressing, Ranma realized something he would have realized far sooner, had he been familiar with this building. The humming seemed to be coming from where he thought he remembered the kitchen of the small, beachside house Nabiki had procured for this occasion was located. Ranma paled, and it took less than a minute for him to be dressed and in the kitchen.
"Good, you're up." Something on the stove... moved, and Ranma's new wife whirled about, forcing it back into a pot with a heavy blow from a wooden spoon. "Down!"
Ranma looked nervously at the gurgling pot. "Umm..."
Akane smiled at her husband's discomfort, turning off the stove. "I figured that would get you up." Her smile turned more than a little evil. "And if it didn't I was going to dump it on you. I've no intention of letting you waste the first day of our honeymoon lazing around like your father."
Ranma breathed a sigh of relief that he wasn't expected to eat the - he took a look in the pot, and couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. He caught a whiff of it and paled. "The stench alone would have been enough," he muttered, averting his eyes from the substance. "And you wouldn't want hazardous waste on our bed, would you?"
Akane's eye twitched, she opened her mouth... and the doorbell rang. "I'll get that," she said after a moment, and Ranma breathed another sigh of relief.
Seconds later, Akane spoke again. "Ranma dear," she called from the front room of the house. "Would you care to explain why there's a young woman here looking for you?"
Ranma stepped into the foyer, and blinked as he saw a face he'd almost forgotten. "Hotaru?"
Several minutes later, the three were sitting together over cups of fresh tea. Akane still eyed the young goddess suspiciously. "Are you sure he didn't wish to be your boyfriends?"
"Quite sure," Hotaru replied. "The wish was very specific: 'I wish I could help you guys out finding someone to make you happy.'"
Akane sniffed. "Well, you can never be certain someone as perverted as him."
The words left Ranma's mouth before he realized. "You didn't seem to mind too much last night." Akane's face turned scarlet, and as what he had said sunk in Ranma could feel his joining hers.
Hotaru laughed, but her face soon straightened and her voice turned serious. "I'm afraid I'm not here to talk about anything light-hearted."
"What?" Ranma asked, a sinking feeling in his gut.
