“But I can’t get married, Mom!” he said quickly, hoping against hope that one rumor he had heard at school was true. Unlike a good portion of the students at Furinkan, a few had been his friend without perverted reasons.
Well, they may have had them, but they never mentioned them and had the decency not to drool at either of his forms where he could see them. That put them way about over ninety-five percent of the school population; teachers and staff included.
“Oh?” she asked, her tone devoid of emotion, her hand twitching towards her sword.
“Ranma?” asked Nabiki, tears forming in her eyes.
Akane stood to the side, hopeful that Ranma would take a stand. True, it wasn’t like she wanted to marry him … really. But Ranma needed to stand tall. Surely his Mother would appreciate that.
“Cause I’m not of age yet,” he said.
Nodoka blinked at that, as did the other girls. “Huh?”
Ranma tried desperately to recite what that one smart girl had told him—aside from something called parental neglect and abuse reactions. “Well, the law says I can’t be married until I’m eighteen, even with parental permission.”
“WHAT?” came the yell of the fathers, as they leapt over the wall.
“Boy, if I say you’re old enough to get married, then you damn well better get married!” yelled Genma.
“And what happens if the government finds out I lied?” yelled Ranma right back. Actually, he didn’t know, but he felt he needed to say it. “Would they take the Dojo?”
That stopped the two fathers in their tracks. Quite frankly, both wanted to keep the Dojo in the family … for differing reasons. So the possibility of the government taking it scared them deeply.
Well, it scared Soun deeply, Genma was scared much deeper about the fact Nodoka might demand his head—and the Boy’s too!—if Ranma wasn’t married immediately. Hmm, could he have the Boy distract her while he made a break for it?
“That’s okay,” Nabiki said, sniffling a bit. “I can wait until Ranma is of age.”
“ACK!” Ranma yelped, immediately pulling the sniffling girl into a hug. True, he didn’t really want to marry her—she’d really make him pay for that tomorrow morning when the pill wore off—but he couldn’t stand to see a girl cry.
Nodoka happily noted this all. She took it to mean her son truly cared for the young lady. “Well, it does give us time to prepare a real wedding,” she mused. “A rush wedding rarely has what makes it so magical for the bride.
“Perhaps we can discuss this tonight?” said Nodoka, placing her hand on the distraught girl’s shoulder.
Nabiki slowly nodded. At least she had plenty of time to prepare her perfect wedding with her perfect love!
Ranma slowly released his breath. Yes, he’d get to keep his head one more day!
Too bad even with his back turned, he could feel some killer intent coming from Akane. Sure, he’d probably suffer, but he’d still have his head and be single when Nabiki snapped out of it.
He hoped.
