"Yeah," agreed Ranma. "Anyway, I'm here to help out so let's see what I can do fer ya after supper." Ranma remembered now where his old man and his younger self would be now. Akane was just over five and she was a couple of months older than he was. He was out on the training trip and would have just left Ukyo behind in the road. Oh hell, there was someone else's life he'd screwed up that he'd have to find a way to fix.
In a few weeks Genma would start filling a pit with cats and begin training young Ranma in the catfist. In a few weeks he'd be at that shrine with the old woman who could calm him down out of that feral state of mind.
"Is something wrong?" asked Kasumi in a small voice.
"Sorta," agreed Ranma. "I just remembered some other kids that kinda got some problems hitting them right now. I'd heard of their... difficulties but I ain't sure how to help 'em out even if I could find 'em." Ukyo had been in Osaka, hadn't she? And young Ranma had ended up in some mountain village but that was so long ago and so much had happened he wasn't clear on it. If he could just remember - because Ukyo's cart had gotten abandoned right after the catfist training or something had happened to it. Unfortunately most of the next year had been a blur as darn near any exposure to cats had been enough to start him off. It had taken years to where he could fight it as much as he could at sixteen and not immediately lose it.
"Other children with problems?" Soun asked, wondering if this had some bearing on his own loss. Maybe focussing on something other than their own loss would help?
"Yeah, I kn- heard of this gal who's an okonomiyaki chef prodigy that's kinda wandering around alone. There's also a kid who's being trained in a really harebrained martial arts style that is gonna get hurt real bad, even if it is for the sake of the Art."
"Ah," said Soun.
