With the strength of their conquered territories and the advice of the Mandarins who had turned aside from the struggle to instead guide their barbarian conquerers into civilization. Just so had they conquered all within sight, including that tiny little island to the East.
Now history claims that it was Genghis Khan's son who spread the empire of the mongols so far and that they never succeeded in invading Japan, but that is due to some clever re-writing.
The Mongols ruled all and were the greatest empire upon the Earth, with the possible exception of Rome on the very edge of their territory. But they couldn't even handle a handful of Gauls in a tiny village supported by one measely magician, two warriors and a little dog.
Where as the Mongols had, as has been said, conquered all.
Save a tiny village in North Japan supported by a pair of warriors and an Ainu shaman.
