There was only one hold out remaining, and it held on stubbornly. That was the tiny village of Sumwearhear. And, try as they might, the Mongol's could not shift the resisters from their positions.
This was due to a small band of warriors that had taken up residence in the village. As well as some of the original inhabitants.
Sumwearhear and long been the home of the sorceress known as Washu. And, as long as she had remained the village was unconquerable. Before the Mongols came, the Japanese had settled to ignoring this particular piece of real estate. Of course, some of them were now taking refuge there.
So, the village had a mixture of samurai, Japanese farmers, Ainu warriors and then a small selection of notable individuals.
Washu's daughter Ryoko, who had once had an accident when she was younger involving one of her mother's concoctions. As a result, Ryoko was permanently enhanced, a superhuman monster of martial prowess. Also as a result, her mother refused to let her use any other enhancement magics for fear of what it might do to Ryoko.
Lady Ayeka was a priestess, newly graduated from miko and seeking a husband, and noble that had been driven from her proper lands when the mongols overran them. She helped a little, and was a pain in the neck a lot.
Lord Tenchi, his father and grandfather. Tenchi and his grandfather were warriors of surpassing skill, though the old man was starting to slow down a little. Combined with Washu's magical potions and charms, Tenchi was nearly unstoppable.
Sasami was Ayeka's more pleasant younger sister. She was probably the most responsible of the lot save Tenchi and his grandfather.
Kiyone and Mihoshi were magistrates that had barely escaped mongol captivity and were now holding with the others.
But foremost of all these were Tenchi and Ryoko in battling the questionably competent hordes of the Mongols.
