Imagine a dimension of negative energy, a limbo of darkness where nothing should exist, a scenery of everchanging chaos. It is a plane of existence so alien to human senses and understanding that it would render anyone insane.
This is the prison where the forces of the Dark Kingdom were banished eons ago by the Queen Serenity and the Sailor Senshi. In the middle of a tormented sea of evil energy, a gothic castle made of stone, organic-looking metal and gemstones was floating, its very image wavering because of the storm surrounding it.
Inside what looked like a baroque and twisted throne room, five individuals were kneeling before what seemed to be the statue of a hideous monster. Statues, as a rule, didn't have glowing eyes or the capacity to talk. This one apparently did.
"At last...," The rumbling voice of the monstrous sculpture exsuded power and treachery, "I've been sleeping for so long... But now that the Seal is weakening, it is time for the Dark Kingdom to rise again!"
The four men and the woman bowed their heads "Hai, Metallia-sama!" In the background, several monsters and a literal army of faceless minions cheered.
Metallia spoke again "Ah... My faithful generals... Thanks to your efforts, I have awakened from the long sleep where Serenity put me when she banished us here. Though my being is still imprisoned in this stone shell, I have now enough strength to send small groups of our warriors through the Seal directly to Earth"
More cheers rose from Metallia's servants "However, if we want to escape this prison and invade Earth, I need energy!," Metallia's gaze went to one of his male generals, the one with long brown hair, "Nephrite! Are your energy collecting youmas ready?"
"They are awaiting your orders as we speak, Metallia-sama" answered the astrologer and alchemist of the Dark Kingdom.
"Good, one of you will go to Earth and secure the energy we need..." Before Metallia could finish her sentence, the other generals made themselves heard.
"Metallia-sama, I, Jadeite, will go to Earth and bring you more than enough energy for your release!" boldly declared the short blonde-haired male general.
His immediate neighbor, an effeminate looking man with longer blonde hair, protested "Why should it be you, Jadeite? Metallia-sama, your humble servant Zoicite stands ready to go whenever you please..."
"Hohohohohoho...," In this version of the Dark Kingdom, Beryl wasn't a queen but just another general of Metallia. She was dressed in a form-fitting latex suit with pieces of metal armor on vital areas. High heels, a DEEP cleavage and a whip in her hands completed the picture. Female villains had to be sexily dressed, it's a convention of the Sentai genre, "Metallia-sama, this mission implies cunning and subtlety. Something my colleagues are sorely lacking, I dare say it needs a woman's touch..."
Nephrite stayed silent. He was a researcher, not a warrior, though calling him weak would be a mistake. As for the white-haired Kunzite, he knew it wasn't his time to act yet.
Metallia, predictably, didn't like this bickering "ENOUGH! Your petty disputes are spoiling this great moment! Jadeite, you will go to Earth! Use Nephrite's youmas to gather as much energy as possible!"
The general smirked insolently at the others and deeply bowed "As you command, Metallia-sama..." He snapped his fingers and disappeared in a flash of purple light.

Nephrite was back in his laboratory. As he did periodically, he went for his vault and opened it, wanting to look at a particular item.
His eyes stopped on a glass tube where an ornate jewel set inside a silver brooch, a strange symbol pulsing inside. He smiled, caressing the tube. This had been his pet project since the Dark Kingdom had been banished
What many people didn't know was that the asteroid belt in the Solar System had been a planet once. Vulcan had fallen before the might of the Dark Kingdom and was destroyed during the early stages of the War.
Of course, there had been a Sailor Vulcan. Nephrite had killed her himself and stole her power source as well as her mecha. He had studied it for the most part of the Exile, trying to understand and reproduce the Sailor Power. So far, he hadn't succeeded.
One thing he managed to do, however, was to modify it in order to bind the Sailor Vulcan template to a male. The only problem was that he needed a human male for this to work. Fortunately, one of the scouts they had sent to Earth (which meant Tokyo since this is a Sentai world) had located a promising candidate.
Nephrite went to a black crystal ball and waved a hand over it. The dark mist in the ball cleared then an image formed. It was a pig-tailed boy wearing chinese clothes walking in a street.
"Yes, Ranma Saotome, you'll make an excellent warrior for the Dark Kingdom" Nephrite smiled evilly. The boy was already an extremely powerful martial artist for his age. His ego, pride and willingness to do anything to get rid of his Jusenkyo curse gave him enough leverage to recruit him easily.
Nephrite had consulted the stars about the near future. He knew that the Sailor Senshi would rise again to oppose them. He was sure hsi youma would make mincemeat of these girls but it didn't hurt to contemplate alternatives.
Besides, the thought of sending an upgraded and male senshi after the Sailors was so deliciously ironic...
