But instead he dreamt of some unknown really, really nasty folks who wanted to hurt him. They were all around, and popping up all over the place, leaving himself no place to hide. They kept on coming after him, and in the end, while he tried to be brave, his heart was pounding in his ears, and he wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed with his big strong father for support.
That lasted for what seemed like forever, and he found himself calling for help in his dream.
And just as he was about to be gobbled up by a giant shadow with a mouth, another shape came in between them and stopped it, jolting him to sit up totally awake.
Only to wind up staring at a tail standing straight out. It was attacked to the back of a really big lizard looking thing, which seemed to be looking all around him for something to attack, almost like it was... guarding him...
When it found nothing, it turned around and looked at him, sniffing at his clothing. The big creature kept its mouth shut, and started nudging him this way and that, acting like it wanted to make sure that he was in one piece. Which was wierd, considering he might have been terrified of such a creature checking around him.
Except that it actually managed to look... cute, even with how tough it probably was.
Are you okay? came into his head with a decidely feminine tone.
"Huh? Ya can talk?" he asked, confused. "But your mouth didn't move..."
That's because I can talk from my mind to yours.
"Really? Wow... But why are you here?"
To protect you., she told him, You called so I came.
"I did?"
Yeah. And don't let me being small fool you. I'll grow up, and then I'll be real big.
"Cool... But who are you?"
