Golden Destinies: Vr. 3: Next Morning [Episode 93178]

by Philip Weigel

The next morning Ranma yawned as he woke up and groaned when he looked at the time. '5:30 in the morning. Dammed late nights.' He mentally groused. Though he had to admit that if he hadn't stayed up so late, he would never had found out what was bothering Gina so much.

Thinking of that caused the young man to sigh tiredly as he got out of bed and stretched. 'Dammit!' If it wasn't for the fact that Jonathan was already dead, he'd find away to kill him for what he was doing to the family.

He shook his head and went to get some breakfast ready. Nothing fancy, just some cerial was all. He'd be able to think about what was going on and try and help Gina with her problem. 'Dammit Theo, couldn't you let her tell me?' He shook his head. Ranma understood that sometimes you needed to keep secrets. Hell, he never did tell Theo and Julia everything about his past, and they really didn't need to know about it either, so he could understand their standing on the matter.

6:30 a.m.

The young man sighed as he sat down on Gina's bed. "Gina sweetie. Come on, wake up." He rocked her lightly to get her to wake up.

The girl made some moaning noises that sounded like, "lemme alone, tired," before rolling over and trying to fall asleep again.

He sighed, this was going to be harder than he thought it was originally going to be. "Gina, dear. We need to talk about those letters."

He smiled as that did the trick and Gina sat right up looking at him. "Dad?"

Ranma smiled at her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Gina, you could have told me what was going on." The girl stiffened as he said that, so he quickly spoke to let her know that nothing was wrong. "I'm not mad at you sweetie okay? I know this must be hard for you."

Gina started to sniffle, tears falling down her face as she cried out that this was all her fault and that mom and dad were breaking up because of her.

Ranma frowned lightly and pulled the little girl in a tight fatherly hug. "Gina, listen to me sweety, this isn't your fault." He mentally grimaced as Gina started to cry a bit harder into his shoulder. "Gina, please, you've got to understand. Your mommy loves you, so does your daddy. It's not your fault, it's not anyone's fault, you couldn't control what happened okay?" He left out the fact that Jonathan had cursed Julia in the first place.

Gina sniffled and looked at him. "But why is mommy leaving daddy?"

Rannma scratched his head. "Well, Gina, honey..." Ranma started slowly, trying ot think of how to tell this to Gina so she'd understand. He knew she was advanced, but not so much that she was an adult. Though that was probably going to change considering all the letters that he and Theo had been getting to send the girl into advanced classes lately.

The silence was enough for the little girl, she started to sniffle miserably. "I was right, this is my fault. Did I do something wrong?"

Ranma sighed. "Gina... You did nothing wrong. What your mommy and daddy did was so the could get on with their lives. It's unfair they only get to see each other once a year... Rather then be unfair to each other, they decided it was time to move on." He shook his head, mentally railing against the fact that the marriage that was falling apart, and held Gina in a hug. "Theo and Julia will always be your parents, Gina. The divorce doesn't change that. They still love you."

The little girl teared up and hugged her foster-father back. "But, but why did this have to happen?" She started to sob. "This isn't fair!"

"No, it isn't," Ranma agreed. "But as I've learned, life seldom is. The best you can do is take the lemons life hands you and make lemonaide from it."

Gina pulled back and blinked through teary eyes at him. "What do you mean daddy?"

Ranma sighed. "Basically, Gina, when life hands you a bad situation, the best you can do is cut your losses and move on."

The little girl pouted. That sounded terrible to her. "So, mommy and daddy are divorcing." She shuddered and hugged Ranma tightly, crying into his shoulder again.

Ranma sighed. He pat Gina's back tightly as he hugged her. "I know it hurts, Gina. It'll hurt for awhile. But it is for the best."

"How?" The little girl didn't understand it. How could leaving someone you loved like that be for the best? "How can something that hurts so much be for the best?" She cried out as her tears started a new.

Ranma sighed. "Sometimes, if you love some one so much, you have to let them go so they can be happy."

Gina didn't understand that, but nodded against his shoulder, weeping openly.

Ranma sighed and let Gina cry. Damn, did he ever feel bad for the little girl.

After a bit of time, Gina's crying tapered off and she just rested her body in her foster-father's arms.
