And so the years passed
~1st year
Remus Lupin took careful aim with his wand and fired off a spell. Potter and Black had pranked Ravenclaw and he wasn't going to let them get away with it. Everyone knew it was them but no one could prove it.
Across the classroom Sirius Black looked around as everyone around him started laughing, “What's so funny?” James could only stare at his friend, who was now candy-striped in Ravenclaw colors.
Professor Flitwick frowned at young Mr. Lupin, as it wouldn't do to approve of such actions in his classroom, “Remus, what is the meaning of this?”
“Sorry Professor my hand slipped. It won't happen again.”
“See that it doesn't.”
Sirius was outraged, “Hand slipped! I'll show him hand slipped! And you, stop laughing and help me out here.”
“Mr. Black, If I catch you retaliating in anyway from for this minor accident that will be 25 points and detention with Filch. That goes for you too Mr. Potter.”
Sirius sputtered, “Sir.. I.. He.. You can't.. Can I be excused to go see Madame Pomphrey?”
Professor Flitwick considered this a moment, “No. As we are covering color charms today, you and Mr. Potter have the rest of the class to figure out how to turn you back to normal. If you succeed you'll get 15 points each. If not I'll have someone tell your next instructor what happened.”
By the end of the year the three would be fast friends.
~2nd year
“I knew we would both make the team. I told you so. We're gonna be the best Hogwarts has ever seen.”
“Sirius, you were so nervous you threw up before tryouts.”
“What? That was a touch of stomach flu. It just shows how much talent I have to make the team while sick.”
“You know what they say, Sirius, the shine shines on every dog's a”
“Shut up you. Enough with the dog jokes. Anyway, I thought you'd be happier. What's wrong?”
“I'm worried about Remus. Something's wrong with him and he won't say anything.”
“Well, we'll just have to find out. Aurors Potter and Black are on duty.”
“Great, I've got my own bloodhound, this'll be solved in no time.”
“That's IT! You're getting it now.”
Two months later James and Sirius have cornered Remus.
“Remus, we know somethings up. You disappear under the Willow and show up looking like someone worked you over.”
“Yeah, what's going on mate? If we have to we'll just follow you”
“NO!” Remus shouted, “Don't do that! I'll tell you.” Remus looked away from his soon to be ex-friends. “I.. I'm..,” Remus paused and gathered his courage, “I'm a werewolf.” He waited for them to to shrink away and condemn him.
“Really? Cool!”
“Shut UP Sirius. Stop being such a twit.”
“Twit?! I'll have you know”
Remus couldn't believe his ears. His deepest, darkest, most horrible secret and his friends treated it like it was nothing, “How can you guys just accept this? Aren't you scared? Disgusted?”
“Scared? Disgusted? Nah. I mean, It's not something you can just laugh off, but well, we know you Remus. Now if you want scary and disgusting, Sirius with an idea is scary and disgusting.”
“That's it Potter, This time you're getting exactly what's coming to you.”
As his two friends started to fight, a slow smile crept over Remus's face. Maybe things wouldn't be that bad after all.
~3rd year
“What's the poor little Huffie gonna do now?” drawled one of the pack of Slytherins.
Severus Snape snarled as he looked for a way out. As he was trapped by the group in the dungeons this didn't look good. Peter, of course, was less than useless, cowering off to the side. Why the idiot continue to tag along after him he had no clue. Still the real threat was Lucius.
“So have you thought over my offer Severus?” Lucius asked. Everyone knew Severus Snape was absolutely brilliant at potions, and Lucius meant for the other boy to join him. He cursed himself for picking on the boy when Severus was a first year, who knew Snape would hold a grudge that hard. If he wouldn't join, however, then he would serve.
“You can take your offer and shove..” Severus grunted as the large boy, named Guile or something like that, shoved him hard against the wall. He didn't dare go for his wand.
“Now, now Severus, is that any way to talk to someone who only wants to be your friend?” asked Lucius.
“Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if all your 'friends' talked to you like that, Lucius,” James Potter said as he leaned idly against the wall a short distance away, tapping his wand against his shoulder.
Lucius scowled at him, “Why James, what a 'pleasant' surprise.” Potter was a complete pain in the arse. By himself he wouldn't be much of a threat, but wherever you found Potter you could also find..
“I always think so Everyday when I wake up I'm completely surprised whenever I see James.”Sirius said from behind the group. “It's the hair, I still say that that isn't James real hair. What do you think Remus?”
“I think you're going to be eating dog biscuits again” Remus added from the other side.
By this time Severus had also gotten his wand out, and Peter had his out as well. Lucius decided to retreat. “Well, I'll talk to you later Severus. Come gentlemen, we have business elsewhere.”
After the other Slytherins left, the five boys sized each other up. James reached a hand out to Snape, “James Potter.”
Severus slowly took it, “Severus Snape.”
“Sirius Black. You're that potions genius who always acts like someone just shoved a stick up your” Sirius cut off as two hands smacked him up the back of the head.
“Ignore him. He's a moron.”
~4th year
Lucius Malfoy sneered at the younger boy, who sneered right back. 'Damn Potter and Black' he thought. The two younger boys were a major obstacle in his influence. He'd have owned Slytherin by now if it weren't for them and their 'Marauders'. Potter, Black, Lupin, Pettigrew, and Snape. And they were hiding something, something big. He would find out and he would get rid of them all.
By the end of the year no one would be speaking to Sirius Black, who almost got Lucius Malfoy killed by a werewolf, Remus Lupin.
~5th year
Sirius managed to patch things up with everyone, and together they went on to make the Marauders Map.
~6th and 7th year
SMACK!
James Potter stared at the retreating back of Lily Evans, a red hand print on his cheek. Everyone else was trying not to fall over laughing. “Who.. Who was that?”
This is a scene that repeats itself throughout the year.
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
“Lily, I can't believe you. You've got James Potter chasing after you and you keep.. hitting him!”
“ Of course I do. I mean, he's nice and all but he just gets me so.. so.. aggravated. That's it. He's a very aggravating annoying person.
“James, just give up mate. I mean, she's more friendly to Severus than she is with you. I mean really, that's just.. sad.”
“What the bloody hell is that supposed to mean Black? I'll have you know that I'm very popular with the ladies.'
“For a stick maybe.”
As Sirius and Severus started fighting, again, Remus spoke up, “Do you think that Sirius might have a point James?”
“No, things are really starting to go well. I think I'm really starting to rub off on her. She'll start coming around any day now.”
Peter poked James in the cheek, “More like the other way around. She's really starting to rub off on you. Much longer and that hand print will be permanent.”
James woke up the next morning with a bullseye painted on his cheek. Which he didn't find out about till breakfast, when Lily punched him before turning turning very red and running in mortification. James' revenge on his fellow Marauder's was very, very sweet.
Little did they all know that by the end of seventh year the two would be planning their wedding.
~And beyond
Sirius had been having a bad feeling all day. It only got worse when he pulled up to where they had hidden Severus. They door was ajar and there were signs of a massive struggle. He got to James' house just as Hagrid was picking up the only survivor, poor little Harry. James was dead, Lily was dead, Severus was.. taken. He didn't really want to think about what had probably happened to Severus. How could they have known. The only people who knew where Severus was were him and.. Peter. Rage filled him. Peter had betrayed them all. He was going to kill him when he got his hands on the filthy traitor.
By the time things had settled, Sirius was in Azkaban, Severus Snape was fighting for his life with the help of the best mediwizards at St Mungo's, and Harry was at the Dursleys.
