Nabiki was fascinated.
Rei was calm and matter-of-fact.
Ranma was listening on the other side of a wall and completely confused.
"'men's magazines'?" questioned Nabiki.
"Yes, I overheard comments from Daisuke and Hiroshi regarding such and was able to investigate further, just a moment." Rei left and returned with a sampling of the magazines in question.
Nabiki flipped through the samples. "Whoa. 'Pretty Bunny', 'G1/4', 'Pethouse', you've got quite a selection here."
"A larger sample across the spectrum would seem to provide a better representation," agreed Rei.
"So you plan on using these 'special techniques' on Ranma?" said Nabiki, still more amused than anything else. When the Ice Maiden decided to melt - she didn't go halfway did she?
Rei nodded. "He seems to lack confidence, particularly in his male self. Again this goes back to what we've been able to infer about his growing up without real friends and anything approaching a peer group. Once I have reassured him of his maleness, he can be introduced to other activities which will help him develop beyond the two dimensional boundaries he is currently experiencing."
Ranma tried adjusting the jelly jar he was listening through. Something about special techniques and Rei was going to teach him to go beyond boundaries?
"Ranma lacking confidence?" asked Nabiki, ready to laugh.
"He has extreme confidence in his martial arts, his strength if you will - yet in the field of interpersonal relations outside that arena he is supremely underconfident." Rei opened one of the magazines and her finger pointed out a section. "According to this, this is extremely enjoyable for a male. Initiating this manuever is likely to relax him considerably."
Nabiki and Kasumi leaned close to read the letter.
Kasumi fainted.
Nabiki looked mildly intrigued. "I'd heard about that."
"Meanwhile, I am attempting to practice this manuever," said Rei, pointing at another section, "though I think Ranma most likely is not going to be ready for this for some time. Controlled motion of the muscles in that area is proving difficult."
"Whoa," said Nabiki, feeling a little faint herself. "I'm not sure that's actually possible."
Rei nodded. "I'll let you know."
"You're treating this as a series of 'special manuevers'?" Nabiki asked, having to sit down and wanting a rice cracker. Certain images had popped into her head and she was having trouble getting rid of them.
"The School is Anything Goes Indiscriminate Grappling," pointed out Rei. "It seemed appropriate."
