"Yeah, I'm an Operator," said the girl, holding out a hand. "That means I fix gadgets and soup em up. This transport for example, the Tuatha de Danaan is my continuing project. That's why I'm the Captain. Sort of."
Ranma gingerly shook the girl's hand wondering about the gray-blonde's nervousness. Probably because he was a war machine now. Maybe he should be nice to her so she wasn't so scared?
"So you'll be part of our defense force I guess," said Tessa, going out into the corridor and motioning Ranma to follow. "Anyway, I ought to introduce you to Sosuke and Kurz, they're both power armor pilots. You'll be working with them mainly. Oh, and there's Mao. She's in charge of that part of operations. There's also Kagome. She's a Mystic."
Ranma looked at the various individuals as Tessa pointed them out from the windswept catwalk. Most looked really young. Like him.
"No, Miss Tendo. As we've repeatedly stated, this will not hurt."
"Okay," said Akane nervously.
As if explaining it for the twelfth time was a chore, the technomage rubbed the bridge of her nose and wondered if this job was really worth it. "Look, we've gotten interference patterns and loss of performance on the mecha you've piloted. I've checked and you've got a pretty high ISP rating. If what I suspect is true, this is just going to be flashy."
"Well, it's just..." said Akane, still a bit nervous about unseen things targetting her brain.
"Just do it. CLEAR!" commanded someone who was heartily sick of this.
A switch was thrown. Akane flinched despite that being the only indication that something was happening.
"Whoa, we have a positive," said one of the techs.
"What? You mean I'm some kind of freak?" Akane demanded, then seeing some of the heavily disapproving glances directed at her, appended the statement. "You mean I'm some kind of psychic girl?"
"It looks like, Miss Tendo," said one of the techs. "You're-"
