Ranma watched and tried to figure out how it did that.
The dojo lifted, intact, into the air despite the howl from Soun Tendo's throat. Land was reshaped underneath it.
More runes appeared, joining the others to form a set of circles around the aasimon. When it was done those circles began to rotate in different directions from the circle on either side. A deep guttural voice began chanting in some unknown language.
Finally whatever it was had been done and things settled back into place.
"Okay. That part is done, now to figure out which one will be your fiancee," said the aasimon, floating into the house.
"Which one?" asked Ranma, a little concerned.
flick The television turned on and morphed into a 48" HDTV.
"Whoa," said more than one of the Tendos. USEFUL magic. What a bizarre concept, but one that they weren't averse to.
"There are several you could meet who would be ideal for your continued development and their own," said the aasimon.
The image of a girl with short blue hair and glasses, studying while eating a sandwich appeared.
"This is Ami Mizuno, a 'cram school ace' who wants to become a doctor some day. You could help her overcome her shyness, while she could assist you in learning things beyond the Art. Without your help, she will end up abandoning her dreams in order to serve her princess."
The image switched to a girl who had this unbelievably sad and heartbroken look until she quite obviously forced it down and was all smiles and giggles for her friends.
"Minako Aino. Champion of justice and warrior of love who is destined to never herself find love or happiness. Boy crazy, but that in part is sheer desperation. Without your involvement, she is destined to give up on the male gender and any hope of love herself, eventually turning to alcohol in her middle years."
The image became a tall girl executing a kata in the woods.
"Makoto Kino. Tough martial artist girl, just as boy crazy as Minako, and nearly as desperate. She seeks to balance her traditional girl talents and tastes, with her love of combat and athletic skills. If you do not intervene, she ends up in a relationship with Ami Mizuno that fails to completely satisfy either."
The image switched again. This girl was very young looking and somewhat gothic.
"Hotaru Tomoe. Her apparent youth is the result of dying and being resurrected imperfectly. Without your intervention she is destined to kill herself by overextending her power during the Great Freeze."
"Not real happy lives," commented Ranma.
"They have acheived some satisfaction and happiness in their lives, but they've made some compromises on the way they hadn't intended to. That isn't all that uncommon, actually."
"Whatever, but my getting involved is gonna fix this?" Ranma was skeptical.
"No, it gives them a chance for a better outcome and you yourself have a better chance at a better outcome and personal development," answered the aasimon.
Ranma glanced around at all the hostile faces and winced. He wasn't too thrilled about this fiancee bit but maybe being somewhere else for awhile would be a good idea.
"The mechanism of engagement is set, now the proper fiancee has been selected. Appropriate materials are added." The aasimon said. "The gate will remain open for fifteen minutes due to its being constructed, after which the prior triggers will be necessary for the contact."
Ranma followed the glowing orb to the dojo and saw the open trap door, at the bottom of which was blue sky with a bit of clouds.
Akane had had enough of this. "You want to go meet your new girlfriend, Ranma, then JUST DO IT!" This was followed by a swift kick to Ranma's rear.
"Uncuuuuute," called out Ranma as he fell down the chute.
"Oh my, who is he engaged to?" Kasumi asked the glowing ball.
The ball dipped in midair, about to follow Ranma into this second world. "Ah, that is-"
