“All right,” Shinji acquiesced. “We'll do it your way, sir. Can't say I've got much of a better idea...”
“Okay then,” the wizard said with a wise smile, “let me explain how this is going to work. I'm going to give you this little potion which contains the essence of an ancient incubus, the male counterpart to a succubus. When Maya takes this into herself, her spirit will merge with this male being, and succubus and incubus will combine into the purest of sex demons, unrestrained by the bonds of gender. This will hopefully give her the perspective she needs to see men as something other than her tormentors.”
“Hopefully?” Shinji asked. “You suddenly sound a lot less sure of it.”
“Agreed, that doesn't sound like the most confident assessment ever,” Rei added.
“Well, there exists the possibility that Maya may become even more enraged, being forced to take on male traits. This of course could make her even nuttier, perhaps enough to betray us.”
“Man, there is that...” Shinji crossed his arms and looked up slightly, as if pondering something. It seemed he was being called on to make far too many important decisions for his liking. “Guess we gotta risk it,” Shinji finally said in a resigned voice accompanied by a shrug. “It's not like we've got plenty of options.”
“We should make preparations then,” Rei suggested. “We'll likely not have many chances at this.”
“You're right,” Shinji told his genie, nodding as he did. “You guys got any suggestions?”
“Well, you can't just hand it to her,” the wizard cautioned, looking directly at Shinji as he spoke.
“Yeah, figured as much,” Shinji admitted. “I am a boy after all.”
“How will we administer the potion then?” Rei asked, her red eyes piercing into the wizard's as she spoke.
“Good question,” the old man said. “Why don't you...”
