Phoenix Ranma: Still At It [Episode 98549]

by Kender

Genma was proud of his son, and didn't mind showing it. Over the years, the boy had become stronger and faster in leaps and bounds to the point where he was easily one of the strongest fighters around, if not the strongest. He was sure of it because the boy had taken his lessons and managed to use them to their full advantage. Obviously it was due to his teaching skills and the Saotome blood, and he thanked whatever dieties he could for the boy being blessed with that. No matter what the training schedule, the boy succeeded, and had become what his father had hoped for in a fighter.

Of course, there were some things that weren't going quite as planned. The boy was not looking to his father for guidance for the most part. Also, he didn't seem to be getting the view of girls that his father had been trying to set for him, as well as managing to have friends he kept mentioning on occassion. That hadn't been in the plan so to speak, but he was sure that he could work out the bugs in time.

Looking across the campfire at his son, he had to smile. Soon it would be time for him to meet Tendo's daughters and he had little doubt about them. They would be ready to marry, and all they would have to do would be to pick one. Then the promise would be fulfilled, and he'd finally see his dream completed.

"So soon... I can't wait..," he murmured under his breath.

Ranma looked up from where he was poking at the fire with a stick and frowned. "What was that Pop?"

"Nothing!" his father blurted and silently cursed his son's excellent hearing. It was a wonderful thing for a martial artist to have, but it meant that he had to watch his words, which was so inconvient.

Shrugging, the pigtailed boy tried not to yawn. Birthdays with his father regularly sucked, and this sixteenth one was no different. That was the cost of being a martial artist, but accepting that didn't mean that he had to like it. Still, he didn't mind, seeing as he knew that he was becoming a strong fighter. And in any case, he'd had friends who cared about such things, and that meant a lot.

"I'm gonna take a bath, okay?" Ranma told his father as he rose from his seated position.

"That's okay, but remember that we have an early start in the morning, boy," his father warned him severely.

"I know that. We always have an early start."

"True, but we are travelling, and every hour counts."

"Yeah, yeah, I know," the pigtailed boy muttered as he walked away, pulling his shirt of as he went.

"Oh my..," Moon murmured, "Mamo-chan doesn't have muscles like that..."

"He is a..," Mercury whispered, "healthy specimen..."

Jupiter got a starry look in her eyes. "Sempai..."

Mars raised a brow as she looked at Venus. "You can close your mouth now."

Rather than answer, the Senshi of Love simply turned her priestess friend's head.

"That is..."

"Uh-HUH!" Venus agreed.

Pluto hid out among some rocks and grinned to herself. For years she had travelled after this boy in a quest to end his threat to the time stream and her sense of peace. In search of that goal, she had found herself in hospitals, mental institutions and jails, among other places, but she persevered, and wasn't about to give up. It was her reason for being, and had grown to consume her to the point that she had stopped considering what she was going to do after she got rid of him.

Sure all of her previous plans had failed somehow, but she wasn't about to let that stop her. Even if that series of traps at that all boys school hadn't worked, there were always other things to try. So they had failed a lot of the time because of that wandering boy who kept coming into contact with them. That same boy was someone she had hoped to get to do the job for her, but that hadn't worked out exactly as planned.

But she was certain that this was going to be the last birthday that the boy ever celebrated. She had a plan and this time she was absolutely certain that it would work. As far as she was concerned, nothing could go wrong.

Especially as the boy and his father were heading for:
