“So she was like him?” asked the eagle.
The owl nodded. “It would appear she was transported to the Drow as Pewter was to us,” said the owl. “This is surely the sign of powerful magics.”
“And that explains her clumsiness?”
“No,” said the owl. “It may however explain why she left her community. Her human nature would be hard pressed to remain submerged. Unlike Pewter, the society she was left in would barely tolerate human ideals, let alone a desire for nature.”
“Maybe she was sent to them as punishment?”
“Perhaps; but it doesn’t explain why she is having such trouble dealing with simple acts. She trusts too much in her books and not enough in her experience.”
“OWF! I NURNED NY NOUNGE!”
“You know; most people let the meat cool somewhat before consuming,” said Pewter.
“Whatever it is,” said the owl, “we should still watch. If Pewter makes friends with her, it will help him develop ties.”
“You think he may seek to explore the world outside the island?”
The owl nodded. “Even if his dragon nature works in harmony with his human nature, it will not hold him to use anymore than he feels it need be. He already has the exploring urge; one of their finer attributes.”
The eagle nodded. “One of their very few.”
Oberon shook his head. “I always did like Dragons; such an intelligent race.”
A satyr shook his head. “My Lord, will this not negate her punishment for her sins against Ranma?”
“That it may,” said Oberon. “But then again I think living with the Drow has given her an appreciation for the finer things of nature.”
The fairy giggled. “Well, at least you didn’t make her a dwarf, given her love of money.”
Oberon chuckled. “Oh; and do not forget the chaos this might cause should they find their way back to their universe before we planned.”
“And what if she wakes her true memories?” said the satyr. “That priestess already tried, and only by your hand did she only get a small and painful glimpse of her past.”
He looked at the pool of water as the scene between the dragon and the Drow continued to play out. “In a way, learning of who she once was will be just as painful as anything we could have done.”
Pewter was very interested in everything his new friend had to show him. After all, the only place he could remember were the islands and his experience with life was only what they held. He didn't know much about the world outside of it and this was his chance to learn about it as well as enjoy her company.
Sinda was just happy that the dragon was happy and that he didn't seem ready to use her for the things that she had heard other dragons had been used for. For the moment, he was calm and interested, which was good for her because even if he was good, annoyed or angry dragons were not something to be on the bad side of. She had little wish to be squished or worse, and her nervousness was contributing to her clumsiness. But in no way was she going to admit to such a being that she wasn't completely sure on all she was doing, especially as she had been so proud about what she had learned.
Luckily though, he seemed kind enough, and he had managed to get her a good supply of meat.
It still didn’t mean she was relaxed. But at least while dealing with him, she didn’t have to deal with those damned dreams the cursed priestess gave her; dreams of a human with short hair and a will that maid most Drow seem tame and gentle by comparison.
Imagine; charging a cursed boy for hot water to restore his form, when a deranged girl is attempting to kill his cursed side right there. She had shivered at the idea the priestess had suggested; that those were memories of a past life as a lowly human before she had been “blessed” by being reborn as a Drow.
If that was true, then she hoped she never recovered those memories of a past life. It was one of the reasons she kept her hair long; to further disassociate herself with the short haired soulless girl obsessed with money.
"You're nice," Pewter commented as he looked from the meat that was cooking to his new friend.
The Drow looked up at him from where she had been attending to her injured fingers. "I am?" she asked.
"Uh-huh. You've been showing me so much neat stuff, and cooking the food..."
"Hmph... Well, you did bring it. It'd be wrong not to share your catch after all."
"Yeah, but I still like you."
"Err... thanks," she murmured as she tried to figure out how to deal with such a compliment.
"Are there more like you?"
"Probably, but probably not among my kind," she shook her head sadly.
"Huh?"
She gave a big sigh. "You don't know about Drow?"
"Not really... You’re the first person not of my kind that I’ve ever met."
"The only thing you need to know is that most of them aren't nice at all. They're mean and vicious and even I don't like the way they do things, and I grew up with them."
"Oh..," the dragon said reverently as he gave her a look that seemed to tell her that he was enthralled with her words.
"Just... Don't trust them unless you know that they wouldn't have a reason to lie to you. Which pretty much means don't believe what they tell you for the most part."
"Okay!
“But ... I can trust you?”
Surprised, she nodded. “You probably shouldn’t trust someone you just met. But ... I’ll try not to break the trust.”
Pewter smiled as he resumed eating his meat.
As she realized that he was taking her as the voice of experience, she tried not to wonder about the concept while:
