Silence reigned supreme downstairs as everyone tried to come to grips with that last shocker. Nabiki, of course, was the first to recover. “Well, I guess that answers the questions of who he slept with. Congratulations Sis, I didn't think you had had it in you,” she smirked.
Akane scowled at her as Soun and Genma went into full idiot mode, “See Tendo, I told you that Ranma and Akane were a perfect match. They've already had their first child. Sometimes the boy amazes even me. The union of the schools is assured.”
“Too true Saotome, you were right to counsel me against switching the engagement.” Three sets of ears perked up at this hitherto unknown bit of information. Akane scowled even harder.
“Damned if I can figure out how the boy did it, I think we were in Hokkaido back around then.”
“Oh my little baby is all grown up and is now a mother. This is a cause for celebration.”
“Quite right Tendo. Let's get the Sake.”
“Say Saotome, why hasn't your son married my daughter yet?”
“Err.. I'm sure they'll get married as soon as we can get a priest over..”
“WILL YOU TWO JUST SHUT UP? THAT'S NOT MY CHILD!” Akane screamed at them.
They cringed back and then Soun gathered himself together to be stern with his daughter, “Waaaahhhhh! My baby is yelling at me.”
Akane threw her hands up in frustration, “I've had enough. I'm going to go see Yuka and Sayuri.” She stomped out of the house, pausing only long enough to slam the door shut on her way out.
Come on Tendo. Let's go out to the bar and figure out what we'll do next. Now that the boy has a child by her he's sure to marry Akane.” The two men made their way out of the house as well.
A small silence was left in their wake before Nabiki sighed and dropped onto the sofa by Kasumi. “Well, there goes this weeks petty cash.” She closed her eyes for a second, “Can you believe that Daddy was thinking of switching the engagement? That was a disaster the last time it happened.”
“It was quite surprising to find out Daddy had thought of that. Mr Saotome however seems quite set on Akane.” Kasumi studied her clasped hands.
“Just as well. I'm not sure I could take Akane moping about until I could get the engagement switched back to her.” Nabiki clasped her hands above her head and stretched.
“You think they'd switch it to you again?”
“Mmmmmmmm. Of course. You've never shown any interest in Ranma and Daddy would never force him on you.”
“That's.. true isn't it. How do you think Ranma would have reacted to that?”
“Ranma? He'd just accept it, eventually, and try to make the best of things. You know how he is.”
“Yes, he tries so hard to make everyone happy.”
Nabiki snorted, “Yeah. He'll grow out of that eventually.”
Kasumi frowned slightly and admonished her sister, “Nabiki, that's not very nice.”
“What? I'm just being realistic. You can't make everyone happy all the time.”
“You can still try.”
“Only you would believe that Sis.”
“Be nice or you'll get a surprise next time I do your laundry.”
“Oh god, your not going to starch all my underthings again are you? That was a nightmare.” Nabiki laughed.
Kasumi giggled, “It was even funnier watching you try to wash your own clothes.”
Nabiki faked outrage, “I'll have you know I've gotten a lot better since then.”
“Oh really?” Kasumi asked archly.
The two sisters stared each other down for a moment before breaking down in a fit of giggles. Finally Nabiki caught her breath, “So what do you think about 'Ranko'?”
“Oh, she's such an adorable little girl. It'll be nice having her around the house.”
Nabiki twisted around to stare at Kasumi, “That's it? That's all you have to say? Come on Kasumi. Spill.”
“Well, I just don't know. I mean, she knew who we were. She called me by name and recognized Ranma and Akane right off.”
“But how could she be Ranma and Akane's child? I certainly think I would remember something like that.”
“I don't know Nabiki. There's only one, maybe two people who could answer that question.”
“Nabiki grimaced, “I guess I'll just have to wait for the latest bit of chaos to wake up then.”
Kasumi smiled faintly, “Well you certainly can't say life with Ranma is boring.” She suddenly looked startled and jumped to her feet saying, “Oh my, I almost forgot about dinner.”
