Ranma's Daughter: The Next Day [Episode 99160]

by Void

“Nabiki, dinner is ready. Could you get Ranma and Ranko?” Kasumi asked.

“Sure thing Sis.”

Nabiki went upstairs and slid open the door to Ranma's room. She just stopped and stared for a while after she looked inside though. Ranma and his daughter were lying on their sides on his futon. Ranko was curled up peacefully asleep and Ranma was also sleeping with one arm wrapped protectively around her. It was a very cute scene, and completely unexpected. She snapped back to alertness when Ranma opened his tired looking eyes and said, “What do you want, Nabiki?”

“Kasumi asked me to get you for dinner.”

“Just tell her to put some aside for me and Ranko. We're gonna sleep a while longer.”

“Alright.” He closed his eyes and, as far as she could tell, went right back to sleep.

The next morning Ranma woke up to something pounding on his chest. He felt like he had just gone ten rounds with Herb. Slowly the room swam into focus. Ahhh, his daughter was jumping on him.

“Come on Daddy it's time to get up.”

“Let Daddy sleep for a while longer sweety,” Ranma groggily replied.

“Nuh-uh. Aunt Kasumi says it's time for breakfast and we haven't even sparred yet.”

“Oh? Well you go tell Aunt Kasumi I'll be down in a minute and we'll 'spar' after breakfast on our way to the mall.”

Ranko got all excited, “We're going to the mall?”

“Yup. We've got to get you something else to wear and maybe a few other things as well.”

“YAY!” Ranko bounced out the room and flew downstairs. Ranma could hear her yelling, “Guess what Aunt Kasumi.”

Ranma managed to shuffle his way to the hall where he ran into Nabiki. “You look like crap Saotome.”

“I don't feel that great either Nabiki.”

“Rough night Ranma?”

“Nah, I kept havin weird dreams about Miss Hinako draining me while beating me over the head with a textbook. And I skipped dinner. I'm starving.”

'Hmmmm' Nabiki watched Ranma stumble off to the furo to get himself ready for the day before heading down for breakfast herself. Something was definitely going on here, she just had no idea what it was.

Everyone sat down for breakfast. Ranko was squirming in her seat and everyone had been told, repeatedly, about the planned trip to the mall. Ranma was looking almost like his usual self and Akane was, once again, upset. It seemed that Ranko had asked 'Mommy' if she was going to come with them to the mall today, to which Akane had forcefully replied, “No.” Ranko had flinched and became quiet for a while until Kasumi distracted her. The look of disapproval Kasumi sent her way didn't improve Akane's mood any either. The two fathers were nursing their hangovers and Kasumi was setting everything on the table. Nabiki was formulating her plan of attack.

After eating for a while, and Ranma's father deciding that his son needed more 'speed training', Nabiki fired her opening salvo, “So, Ranko, how old are you now?”

“I'm seven.”

“Really? When is your birthday?”

“In June”

“Wow. Do you know what year you were born in?”

“Ummmm....” Ranko hesitated.

“June Fifteenth, Two Thousand Zero.” Ranma replied distractedly, while fending off his father.

That was enough to set off Akane, “Oh please Ranma, you expect us to believe that?”

“Huh? What?”

“Ranko's birthday. Do you really expect us to believe that?”

“What about Ranko's birthday?”

As Akane opened her mouth to respond she got cut off by a glare from Nabiki. Ranma looked around in confusion for a minute before putting down his chopsticks. “Maybe we should just get going. Ranko have you finished...?” Ranma turned to his daughter and sweatdropped as she had already cleaned up her plate and was currently thanking Kasumi for making such a wonderful breakfast. “Eh-heh. Hey Pops, you got any money left so I can get your granddaughter some extra clothes?”

“Boy, what do you think..” Genma was cut off in mid-rant by a teary-eyed Soun.

“Oh son, it is marvelous that you take your duties as Ranko's father so seriously.” Soun handed Ranma a wad of cash. “To think that I'm already a grandfather.” Ranma ducked away as the tears started to flow, scooping Ranko up and spinning her around. “You ready to go Ranko-chan?” he asked as she squealed in delight.
