Sunday, bloody sunday, bloody boring sunday.
He just finished the last of his tests Saturday and after next week thered be summer vacation. With his parents away Ranma would've had his friends over but they were all gone, some were away on field trips while others were away with their families at the beach or something. He had no one to talk to. There was nothing good on tv, unless you count the Sailor Moon reruns (which he didn't).
His parents would be away for another week or two depending on what happened during their business trip, on a very few rare occasions they came home early. He had a feeling though that wouldn't be happening this time.
The trip around the neighborhood was just something to occupy his mind and waste time, maybe check out the bookstores and see if they had any new manga, hopefully the girl working there wouldn't point him toward the doujinshi section.....somethings ya could never live down.
However just past Duo's Used Mecha shop he heard a commotion coming from the playground just ahead. Hurrying he could hear children calling out like their was a fight or something going on but just as he neared the entrance to the playground he heard something else. 'Was that a cat?' Now that he could see what was hapening he could see the kids all clustered around a section of pipe with one of the kids reaching into the pipe as the cat-like sound rose in pitch.
Pausing a moment to pick up a stick Ranma walked toward the children. "Hey!" The noise died off as the children suddenly looked at him with guilty expressions now that they'd been caught in the act. Ranma's expression didn't help alleviate the childrens guilt/dread, and the stick he held served to compound it further.
Two kids at the edge of the group broke away and ran, jolting the other kids into action as they ran away, calling back insults as they ran past him. They didn't get away scotfree as he used the stick to deliver a stinging slap to their posteriors.
Ranma waited a few minutes just to make sure the kids were gone, then he dropped the stick to kneel by the pipe. It was dark inside but he could just barely hear something moving around inside.
"Its alright, those kids are gone, its safe to come out. I wont harm you."
For a while nothing happened and Ranma thought he might just as well leave. No telling how long those kids had been tormenting the poor creature, he wouldn't be surprised if it avoided people altogether after this day. Then he faintly heard it move again as it came out. The 'cat' looked uncertainly at him as it cautiously moved out from the protection of the pipe.
