Zor's Bet - The SDF-3: Coping with losses [Episode 99478]

by AWarringer

Captain Michael von Richhoven thought that he was in some kind of dream, when his Starfury slowly moved into the hangar of the ship 'Snoopy' had called SDF-3. Von Richthoven didn't really know what SDF meant, but he knew that he would soon find out. He had blinked twice as 'Snoopys' fighter suddenly turned in some kind of big robot. In a way it reminded him of that really old cartoon he had seen on TV when he was a kid, 'Transformers'.

The robot had grabbed the two upper wings of the Starfury and sat it down on the deck, after they had gotten into an area with artificial gravity. Surprisingly it had been gentle, as the Starfury wasn't build to handle a landing in gravity. He had needed some time to get out of the cockpit of his 'fury, but when he stood next to it he could see several other 'furies standing next to his, one of them Rafalle three, with it's pilot getting out.

In the background several other of those transformed fighters were busy to sat other Starfuries on the deck, while the surviving squadrons gathered in front of their 'furies. Needless to say that Von Richthoven and Lieutenant Saint-Exupery stood next to each other as they were the only survives of their squadrons. A few minutes later humans in non-EarthForce uniforms walked up to them and took them to a large room near their landing deck.

The room looked like some kind of pilots lounge. A few windows showed the deck, where the transformed fighters still places Starfuries on the deck. Paintings of fighters and transformed fighters fighting some kind of other robots and some pictures of pilots next to their machines covered the walls, while one wall was reserved for a long bar. Surprisingly there was a barkeeper and a large number of bottles with alcohol.

Von Richthoven and Saint-Exupery sat down at the bar, while other groups of pilots sat down at tables.

"Get me a beer," von Richthoven said. He was in the mood to get really really drunk. Not really surprising after this battle. Saint-Exupery just nodded to that and the barkeeper placed a glass of beer in front of the two.

As von Richthoven took his first sip of the beer, he frowned.

"Damn American beer," he said in a low voice," colored and aromatized water with a bit alcohol."

Next to him a bottle was placed on the bar and caused him to look up and into the face of an EarthForce pilot. He had the rank of a lieutenant and the nameplace read 'Ivanov'. The label of the bottle read 'Moskovskaya'.

"Than you should try some real alcohol," he said with a Russian accent.

The barkeeper raised an eyebrow as he Russian sat down next to Von Richthoven.

"Can I get some of it?" he asked Ivanov, who nodded.

The barkeeper placed two small glasses in front of the two men and Ivanov poured the clear liquid into the glasses.

"How many of yours?" Saint-Exupery asked.

"Just me," Ivanov answered and downed his glass.

There was a silence between the three for a moment, adding to the already silent room, while more pilots moved into the room or to the bar to get themselves drunk. Von Richthoven downed his own glass and Saint-Exupery slowly drank her beer. Ivanov looked at the glass.

"I think I should call Susan and tell her that I'm still alive."

"Your wife?"

Ivanov chuckled.

"My sister."

The silence continued for a few minutes, before someone sat down next to them. He was clothed in one of the strange uniforms and had light blue colored hair. The three looked to the newcomer and von Richthoven noticed the mans nameplate, 'Brown'.

"Snoopy," he asked.

The man turned to them and nodded.

"Red Baron." he answered.

The two men shook hands.

"So your regulations are a bit less strict," Saint-Exupery said as she looked at Brown's hair.

Brown blinked twice.

"Your hair," she specified.

Brown blinked a third time than chuckled a bit.

"No, my mother is Zentraedi."
