Way of the thief: The Joketsuzoku Test [Episode 99544]

by Farsan

"Ok, boy, we've arrived. We're now within sight range, so we should specially cautious."

"There? That little ragtag village in the middle of nowhere? You must be kidding. Oyaji, if you think that I'll buy that there is the 'perfect test for my first lone run' you're really under-"

"Cut it out," interrupted Genma, "Things are not always what they seem. In fact, that 'little ragtag village' is actually the home of one of the most deadly tribe of martial artists of China: the Joketsuzoku, or the tribe of the Chinese Amazons."

"Amazons? As in warrior women? But didn't you always say that women were weak and should be protected?" Ranma asked, suspicious.

"Well, there are... exceptions," answered Genma, embarrassed, "Normally, women have delicate spirits, and they certainly are physically weaker than men, but... at the seldom cases where they manage to bypass their limitations and forget their maternal instincts, they can become relentless warriors. And from what I've gathered, there is the best example of this exception, as they are feared through all the region."

"Yeah, right. I still think that you are underestimating me," said Ranma, "I bet I could defeat them all at the same time with the Yama-"

"You MUST NOT use the Yamasenken. How many times must I tell you that you still don't have enough control to use even its most simple techniques? You can do it more or less well at training, but if you panicked at the heat of the combat and botched the moves, you could end up maiming yourself with your own moves. And even if you somehow pulled it off, the fight would devastate the whole village. Remember, they are NOT our enemies; you must just get into the most protected house, nab any useless trinket you see there, and get out of there."

"If I can't use the Yamasenken, then why didn't you teach me the Umisenken first?" protested Ranma.

"I thought you liked fighting more than sneaking," said Genma, smirking. "Besides, you won't be able to cloak your aura until you learn to control your ki."

Ranma grumbled, but he saw Genma's point. Also, his sneaking skills were almost as good as his father's, and he had yet to find a martial artist good enough to fight him, even if he didn't use his family's secret moves. This would be easy.

Ranma nodded and, cloaked by the night, he got up with a swift and quiet movement and quickly sneaked his way towards the center of the village, avoiding the female guards.

And a couple of minutes later, his father followed his steps, still smirking. Ranma needed to be taken down a peg or two; he was getting too confident... and he had the feeling that he would meet his match here. Genma knew that the lack of a good rival that could actually make him fight him all out had caused Ranma to reach a plateau in his training.

If the reputation these warriors had was well deserved, then his son would be discovered and he wouldn't be able to defeat them without the Yamasenken. Of course that would mean that he would have to rescue him before he were forced to trash the village, but that would teach him something that every martial artist must know: that there is always somebody better than them.

But before the mess started, he had to make adequate compensation for the trouble...
