New Frontier - Zentraedi War: Folding operation (DARK) [Episode 99944]

by AWarringer

The battle over Earth was going on with full force.

Breetai knew that his fleet was more or less fighting a looking battle. He had lost a higher percentage of ships than the opposing forces. And the two new combatants didn't help. Two replications of Zor's ship outfitted with the unknown technology. It had to be replica, because their energy signatures were closer to the other opposing ships than to that he remembered from Zor's ship.

Beside him Exedore still tried to figure out how the two ships had just appeared in the middle of the battle without using the fold-drive. If they had executed a fold they would have been able to tell that they were coming, but this new method of moving faster than light, or maybe moving with relativistic speeds was unknown to him or the Masters.

"What is that?" Breetai asked as he looked at the tactical display and the accompanying closer readouts.

"Zor's ship is preparing to execute a fold," Exedore said amazed.

"Inside the gravity well and the atmosphere of a planet? That is impossible."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While the battle in orbit was just growing in vehemence, down below on Macross Island all civilians had been moved into the airtight civil air defense bunkers, like they had been build near major EarthForce bases on the planet to protect the civilian population in case of a war. In these minutes civilians were moved into these bunkers everywhere on Earth.

As the large antigravity pods and gravitational drives of the SDF-1 Macross slowly lifted the ship off the ground, the Macross Island Defense Fleet of EarthForce, consisting of the Carrier Group around the USS Nimitz and an aditional small fleet of AEGIS cruisers left the sea around the island with fulls speed, putting as much distance between then and the island.

As the SDF-1 reached an altitude of eight kilometers above the island, a white hot bubble expanded from the large ship until it had reached a diameter of twenty kilometers, part of it expanding deep under the surface of the planet. The whole island was covered by the bubble, the last ships of the defensive fleet just barely leaving the area.

Than, just like that, the bubble winked out of existence and with it everything that had been inside.

For maybe a second the absolute vacuum inside the space where the bubble had been was stable. But than large quantities of atmosphere and water started to burst into the empty space. The side effects were more serve then the most powerful nuclear weapon ever created on Earth. The storm unleashed by the air rushing into the vacuum effected the entire pacific area, like the Tsunami that rolled towards the heavily populated coasts of America, Asia and Australia. Several small island would case to exist.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breetai just watched as Zor's ship folded inside the planets gravity well. Even before the ship had executed the fold, he made his decision. The Masters had to get this ship at all costs, if they wanted to win the war against the Invid. He had to leave this battlefield, even if everything in him was repulsed by this thought.

"Break every combat action," he said," We come back later, after we captured Zor's ship."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Donniger exhaled relieved as the Zentraedi ships broke contact and started to retreat. Even if this was the first real space battle of mankind, he was satisfied. They had lost twenty ships, one of them a Warlock, two G.O.D. satellites and maybe 20 percent of the Starfuries, but they had kicked the enemies butt, so to speak, as he had lost more than five hundred ships.

"Priority Order to all ship that were involved in this battle, break contact with the enemy," he said.

The enemy really wanted the SDF-1 and he hoped that the ship would catch the attention of the enemy long enough for the fleet to get repaired and a real battle plan to be put in action. And they needed Intel about the enemy.

"All we now need is enough time," he said silently to summarize his thoughts.

"Donniger," one of the other lower ranked generals said," the SDF-1 needs reinforcements, when she defolds."

Another general nodded at that.

"I think we should activate Omega Fleet and send them as reinforcements."

Donniger shook his head.

"No, it is a bit to early to activate Omega Fleet, we shouldn't play all of our aces in the beginning."

He made a pause for the effect.

"And besides, we need the Presidents permission to activate her."

The other generals nodded.

"Than we should place Omega Fleet into orange status, that way we don't loose time when we activate her."

"How about the reinforcements?"

Donniger looked at the tactical display.

"The 24th Colonial Defense Fleet under around the Warlock Galactica is en route to Earth. We should tell Will Adama to move towards the defold point of the SDF-1."

Again the other generals nodded and a few minutes later the large tachyon transmitter of Babylon 5 contacted the Galactica.
