Stavanzer:
Size of an adult stavanzer ranges between fourteen Imperial feet and eighteen Imperial feet, the bigger ones being the females.By the standards of the Imperial Biology Council, the Stavanzer is an amphibious pseudo-reptile - though some think of it as being closer to the hyenadon in overall shape and attitude. It is an omnivore, capable of eating a wide variety of substances and preferring meat that has begun to rot.
Adult stavanzers have little of value to them, neither meat nor hides are useful, and they are chronically bad tempered. They are fairly fast, being capable of short bursts of high speed despite being fairly somnolent most of the time.
The stavanzer is the sort of creature that has poor eyesight and only medium other senses, but their sense of smell is quite developed. An old story exists where an adventuring group failed to finish one off, and it tracked them down to their base of operations over a hundred leagues distant.
If a stavanzer has any treasure, it is usually found in a gizzard-like second stomach.

Ranma saw it when the beast emerged from the cave and seemed to view the lifeboat as some gently drifting delicacy coming down into range. "That is one big lizard."
It had a few other elements to it, and instead of scales it had a "pebbly" sort of coating to it. The small eyes (three of them) were barely visible, the tail had some sort of horn blade on it, and its teeth reminded Ranma of a shark - especially as there were layers of teeth showing. If you looked at the way the arms and legs splayed out to the sides and the way the tongue seemed to taste the air and the overall shape though - big lizard. Sort of.
"Must be a female, they're supposed to be the big ones," said Jaim. "Let me try something."
"Go for it," advised Erma. "Once we're in range it'll start moving around a lot faster."

Lightning Bolt.
Ranma eeped as the "bookworm" rubbed two things together in her hands and a bolt of blue lightning crossed the gap between lifeboat and reptile.
With a shriek of outrage the creature blurred into its cave.
Ranma blinked. It was fast.
"You managed to get it, but not kill it," advised Erma. "I've little doubt it will attack once we reach the ground."
"At least they don't regenerate," said the ardrow. "Though I'll admit I've never run into one before, one of my sisters has."
"Adventurer?" asked the fire elf.
"No, just a mail delivery agent within the empire," answered the ardrow.
"Oh," said the fire elf, clearly impressed despite herself. "So who's next in the introductions?"
