Pewter: Pewter improvises an attack? [Episode 102985]

by Kestral

"AAAAAAA!" said the remaining goblins as they ran past.

(Growl roar) went the dragon snapping at their fleeing numbers.

"Any ideas how this happened?" Lena asked.

Amelia nodded happily. "A silver dragon is a sign of Paladine. It is a sign of approval of our cause!"

"Actually that's my friend Pewter, he's some kind of cat shapeshifter who can turn into a dragon," offered Sinda.

"Oh," said a disappointed Amelia.

"AAAAAAAA!" shrieked the remaining goblins as they ran past.

"Rrrrrr!" said the dragon as it pursued them.

"Too bad, dragon blood and parts can increase the effectiveness of some spells," began Lena. On seeing the kender and drow ready to draw weapons, she reconsidered that idea. "Just kidding!"

Pewter considered something. These opponents didn't seem powerful enough to use his breath weapon on. Yet some manner of rebuke seemed appropriate and he wasn't able to catch them on the ground. Maybe if he...

"Yowtch!"

"What the heck?" said an owl.

"I haven't seen that before," confessed a macaw. "He's forming a mouthful of spit, freezing it in his mouth, and spitting the iceball chunk at the goblins."

"What gets me is that they're beginning to resemble cube shapes as he practices this new skill," said an eagle. "I've seen the iceball trick, though where he got it I have no idea. It's the cube shape that's new."

(Ptoo! THWAP!)

"Yowtch!"

(Ptoo! THWAP!)

"Yowtch!"

"He keeps chasing them around in a big circle," pointed out the owl. "He's going to tire out soon."

"Either that or take to the air and lose them," agreed the eagle.

(Ptoo! THWAP!)

"Yowtch!"

"Pardon me, but I'm going to go over there and laugh a few tail feathers off," said the macaw, indicating that the sight of the frantically fleeing goblins being chased around by an icecube spitting dragon was a bit much for him.

Ranmanobaka Ahoman had been named by the spirits. He was a runt but his powers as a sorcerer and shaman made him potentially one of the more dangerous of the Bloody Pustule tribe. Due to these factors, even though he was a runt nobody listened to - he was also given some degree of deference within the tribe.

The fae like to play jokes. It was in their nature. An epic hero needed rivals and enemies.

Ahoman was very good at hiding and as he watched the beast pelt his tribesmen, he felt an unholy glee within him. Not only was the beast embarassing the hell out of his frequent tormentors and tribesmen, he was proving out the prophesies Ahoman had made just prior to finding that campsite.

Not only that, but if he could figure out a way to slay the beast and bring its head home - he could make potions from its bones and various parts. Dragonbone would make an excellent wand. Of course, getting the dragon to part with its parts - that was the tricky part.

And getting vengeance on the dragon now chasing them around would endear Ahoman to those very tribesmen.

Ahoman realized all this and realized one thing more.

Going up against the dragons with the spells he had, he'd get squished. Or eaten. Or trampled into the mud. Or flash-frozen. Against a dragon he had a slim chance of victory. Like a snowball in an active volcano. Or a cow against a crew of hungry orcs. Or a snow faerie against the annis hag Teaquin.

So Ahoman watched from concealment and plotted and planned.
