On the other side of the planet three thousand Zentraedi ships left foldspace, totally surprising EarthForce. Only a few gunboats and Starfury patrols were in the area and they were anihiliated by the overwhelming fire power of the Zentraedi fleet. Only one minute after the destruction of the patrols a hundred drop ships left the fleet, diving into the thin atmosphere.

"God damn fucking shit," was the first reaction of General Nechayev as she looked at her tactical display after the the first alarm.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slowly the EarthForce fleet moved away from their positions. Moving closer together the vessels made their way towards the position of the enemy fleet.
Only five minutes later the first Zentraedi ships appeared over the horizon of the planet and fired their weapons at the EarthForce ships, destroying two of them in the first volley. The fleet reacted in kind and in the blink of an eye the orbit between the two opposing fleets was filled with deadly energy beams and nuclear tipped missiles.

Colonel Tarleton swore as he got out of bed. He went to bed only two hours ago and now the Zents finally came. Just two minutes later he entered the small improvised Tactical Command Center of the Vallis Marineris Colony more stumbling than walking, as he still fought his uniform trousers. His staff was already busy and someone handed him a mug of coffee. He frowned as he took a sip from it and took a look on the two status holograms in the middle of the room.
"Report," he simply said.
"We got one hundred Zentraedi Frandlar Tiluvo class drop ships inbound. We have scrambled all Veritech flights to get them down. But we got several flights of Gnerl class fighters on radar. When they all get through, our troops have to deal with 8000 Zentraedi."
Tarleton frowned again, sat down the mug of coffee and closed the last buttons of his shirt.
"How long until they reach the Vallis?"
"Ten minutes, sir. But there are several problems in orbit. The fleet has already lost twenty ships."
"Fuck. Get me Omega Fleet and scramble all BMCP and PAA troups."

The Vallis Marineris Colony on Mars wasn't really that valuable to orbital attacks. When the first colonists landed on Mars back in 2010 they didn't build the large survival domes that had been projected ten years back, but simply used several natural caves in the giant cliffs of the Vallis. Over time, they stared to dig deeper into the rock of Mars, making space for new colonists. The only domes on the red planet were the abandoned domes of Mars Base Sara, the first Mars Base from 2007, and the only domes the settlers used were to grow their food.
Today more than twenty thousand colonists lived deep inside the rock of the Vallis walls, mostly hidden from sight and saved from eventual orbital assaults.
The troop hangars of the Mars Defense Base, located a few kilometers east from the Colony opened and several dozen BMCP lances and one PAA regiment piled out and moved towards the large Zentraedi ship, located three kilometers distant to the Vallis. Inside the wall of the Vallis itself artillery weapons were readied for combat.
Just as the first troops prepared themselves for combat, the first drop ship appeared over the cliffs of Vallis Marineris, directly followed by several others. They opened their airlocks and the first Zentraedi started to fall towards the surface.
Fire erupted from the walls of the Vallis. From modified Stinger rockets to larger Patriot missiles, from conventional Hydras to beam weapons. The Zentraedi got a warm welcome.
