A Werewolf For A Wife: Where everyone knows your name, and knows better than to change the channel [Episode 109688]

by T.H. Tiger

Without taking her eyes off the TV, Jetta reached out and took a Chicken wing from the tray beside her and popped it in her mouth, where she chewed it up bones and all before swallowing the whole mess.

Beside her, her partner Lenny shuddered. “I swear, one of these days you’re going to fall down dead, and when they cut you open they ain’t going to find a stomach, just a garbage disposal.”

“As if you’re any better,” she chided back, glancing at the piled high chilly dog in his hands.”

“Hey, at least they’re . . .” He was cut off when Jetta shushed him.

“It’s on,” she said, as the TV screen fill with the image of a roaring crowd chanting “Hakken, Hakken, Hakken.

“You, know, if I hadn’t met your husband, I’d be awfully suspicious of you. You do know she’s a rug-muncher, right?”

“As if you haven’t told me a hundred times,” Jetta retorted. Waving at him for silence, but not reacting in any other way.

If anyone other than her partner had dared speak that way about Ranma, Jetta would have ripped him a new one. But partners were special, when they were good ones. Jetta had experienced the other sort when she’d been a beat cop, but since being a detective she’d had Lenny, and he was what a partner should be, which was why he still had all his teeth despite his constant teasing about Hakken.

It was her own fault really. Jetta had been so eager to watch Ranma’s first match, she’d practically dragged Lenny into the bar. Talking about the new fighter that was making her debut, and of which Jetta had heard such good things.

When Ranma, or Hakken, had blurted out she was doing it to support her wife, Jetta had spewed half a mug of beer into Lenny’s lap. He might be a good partner, but he wasn’t going to let something as funny as that be forgotten. Even if she had paid for the dry-cleaning.

Jetta had been lucky to get her present job. Werewolves had been created to be bodyguards and protectors. Being a cop felt just right. Being a detective was not as satisfying in some ways. She dealt with crimes already committed. With little chance of actually preventing one, but her heightened senses, present even in her human form made her a superlative detective. Not that she could ever tell anyone that she’d smelled the culprit on the victim. She almost always knew who had done it the same day, sometimes in as little as half-an-hour, if it was a spouse or partner. Proving it took longer, but when you knew who, how and why didn’t take long to find out.

Jetta’s attention was drawn back to the screen as the fighters were announced.
