Not only did he get his butt kicked and humiliated and bailed out by magical figureskaters - though either of those events would have gotten his dander up - there had been the mocking he'd received at the Tendo house.
Nabiki's snide comments in particular.
Ryoga had apparently been nearby as P-chan, and while many dismissed the whole yoma-magical girl thing as urban myth, the story had come out. It had been embellished and retold and spread. Ranma Saotome not only lost, but he'd been beaten by something outrageously silly. When he got all flustered and argued - that just made it all the funnier and more noteworthy.
There was even this knowledge that somewhere out there, there were girls fighting monsters from beyond and that this wasn't just a bunch of gossip and such.
Happosai was still out looking for them, just the repeat of the gossip had him looking for these gals in the short skirts.
Ranma Saotome was not a graceful loser. Even with people pointing out that Akane cleaned his clock on a regular basis and that he lost fights with her almost daily - it didn't exactly help his frame of mind.
Those girls had thrown fire, ice, and a magic-frizbee attack. This meant something. Magic was not only something to make your life more complicated, it was a method of attack and defense that he knew absolutely nothing of.
When confronted with a new Art, find out what its strengths and weaknesses were - then incorporate them into your own style.
Ranma went off on a training journey, Nabiki's jeers resounding in his ears. He would return when he had incorporated a new section of the Art that would be effective against putty monsters and other silly-yet-deadly opponents.
