A Little Motherly Advice [Episode 114]

by James M. Zema

Placing a finger over her mouth, Kasumi tilted her head slightly as she pondered the question.

Kuno and Ranma both paused as they watched her fiddle with her dress, indecision wracking her face, then run over to a shelf filled with notebooks.

"Just a moment, Ranma. I need to consult mother's notes, I haven't gotten to the sections on marriage yet." She blushed for a moment. "They're a little...explicit, so I've been putting it off and concentrating on the one on cooking." Hurriedly pulling one down, Kasumi started flipping through it, her eyes skimming the pages.

Kuno began looking at an antique watch pulled out of his hakama after Kasumi moved on to the third journal and cleared his throat when she moved on to the fourth. "Excuse me, dearest sister of my beloved Akane, but we shall arrive a tad late should this continue, do you mayhaps have an answer to my beloved's question?"

Kasumi looked up, blinking her eyes, then looked over at the clock. "Oh yes! That was back here in the first journal, just let me--" She looked over at Tatewaki. "Should you be lying on the floor like that Kuno-san?"

Ranma slapped her hand to her forehead and muttered to herself. "Well, what's yer mom's notes say, Kasumi?"

Kasumi smiled brightly before answering, "well, it was all terribly interesting, but from what I read that's one of the fifty three wifely duties! I'm afraid I'm going to have to work a bit on my martial arts, they're not nearly up to the job of being a wife."

Staring at the true head of the Tendo household blankly, Ranma placed her hand on the back of her neck, tugging lightly on the pig-tail. "So that's a...yes, right?" She ground her foot on Kuno's head a few times as he started stirring.

Kasumi just nodded her head, already engrossed with the notes again and taking a few of her own with some paper she pulled from a drawer to one side of the bookshelf full of notebooks.

"Cool! Thanks, Kasumi!" Ranma leaned down and picked up the mishappen Kuno under her foot and turned towards the dumpster before pausing. This was supposed to be educational after all, and she wouldn't learn much from doing something like that. No, what she needed was something...smaller. A grin spread across her face and she trotted off in search of the smallest garbage can the Tendo's had--this should be very educational, a shame Kuno wasn't likely to learn anything.

Kasumi looked down her summary of 'The 53 Wifely Duties, by Kimiko Tendo'. Cooking and cleaning could certainly be crossed off, but however would she begin to start catching up on the remainder! Perhaps she shouldn't have put this off for so long...
