Akane was a suspicious person, it was second nature to her since Ranma had come to live at the dojo. She knew Nabiki was really truthful only when you paid her, simple business ethics. In other circumstances, she was a mistress of lies, half-truths and innuendo. All her actions were calculated to generate profit, money was her only goal in life.
Akane Tendo is also a creature of habits and ran with first impressions. Changes in any forms were seen as a threat to her way of life and she didn't bother to go beyond surface views on people. The 'Nerima routine', however strange and weird it was, had to be maintained.
Ranma would always be a pervert because of his curse and the incident in the furo the first day they met.
Nabiki would always be a cold mercenary only interested in money.
If these assumptions proved false, that would mean she was wrong and Akane Tendo was always in the Right ! Kasumi, auntie Nodoka, uncle Genma, Ryoga and her father said so !
Nabiki's story about learning self-defense because she now went to college away from Nerima was believable except for one detail. If she was really serious about it, she would have asked HER to learn proper anti-pervert techniques. She was the undisputed expert in that domain. That would mean she lied !
Why would she want to be alone with Ranma and be nice to him ? The answer was obvious : money. Since she left for college and Ranma still going to Furinkan, her usual money-making schemes involving her fiancee weren't working anymore. So she switched tactics, she could see it now !
*Enter Akane's vision*
Nabiki (doe-eyed) : Ranma-kun, I must tell you something... I love you !
Ranma (happy) : Oh, Nabiki-chan... You've been so nice to me these days, I love you too !
Nabiki (crocodile tears) : But... but what about Akane ?
Ranma (carefree) : I'll just switch the engagement to you and everything will be fine. Who would want to marry that uncute tomboy anyway ?
Nabiki (smug) : You wouldn't mind doing some things for me while I'm away studying, wouldn't you ?
Ranma (clueless) : Anything for my loving fiancee...
Nabiki (happy smile) : *Got you, sucker !* Oh, Ranma...
The cherry blossoms fall around the kissing couple but you can see behind Nabiki's back various papers selling Ranma to various people in her left hand.
*Exit Akane's vision*
That... that... that pervert ! How dare he fall blindly in her devious sister's trap ? He must have encouraged her too ! *Just you wait, Ranma ! Tomorrow you'll have some explanations to do !* Now that she had seen through Nabiki's plan, Akane went back to her room for a good night's sleep.
The two sisters didn't see the little piglet who listened to the whole conversation *Ranma, you cad ! How dare you ignore akane ! You'll pay for this outrage, I swear !*
