Apparently, her father had been some sort of mystical scholar, reknowned for his skill, talent, and brilliance. But he was also someone who had a drive to discover new things, and he went to dangerous lengths to prove his theories. One of which led him to managing to attract the attention of a mazoku, which in of itself was a big problem. However, by some means or another, her father had bedded the mazoku, who in turn became her mother. She'd been born, and for a little while had been happy.
Then time went by, and she became a bit of a pariah for being half mazoku, as the other children stayed away unless it was to yell at or tease her. As she grew up, she was drawn to sorcery, and white magic in particular, but in Seiryun, mazoku were not exactly welcome. It had taken Prince Phil making some sort of declaration about 'redemption' that had let her follow her desired path.
Sniffling up at him after finishing her story, she asked, "You're not going to hate me either, are you?"
"What?" he asked incredulously, "You're not 'bout ta suck my life out? Tempt me? Blow me inta little bits?"
"No..."
"Then I don't see why I should toss ya aside just on account of what your pop decided ta do."
"You don't?"
"Nah. I mean, I ain't got the best of fathers either. I do understand some of what ya are goin' through."
"But you are human..."
"I'm still an outsider in a lotta ways. And I've never been one for followin' what others want. I said that I'll be your friend, and I will."
That set her face into a tremulous smile before she pressed her cheek into his chest and held onto him as if afraid he was going to vanish.
He had little choice but to give her a hug and hope that his awkward strokes on her back would be enough to reassure her while:
