Any moment now, she would be assaulted by dread opponents and always heroic Ranma would leap in to rescue her. She would politely thank her rescuer (smothering the urge to simply decree that he join her) and then ask for directions to her new home.
Yep, any minute now it was all going to start...
Her step turned a little slower as she came to about the half-way point of the school. She looked around irritably, though still trying to keep the fact that she was expecting something to happen hidden.
Her eyes espied a trio of ninjas sitting on the Furinkan grounds and blinked, staring at them in sheer disbelief. Looking about as if to see if the explanation were around somewhere, she sighed and considered the strange occurence. Finally, she walked hesitantly up to the three ninjas.
One of them was deeply engaged in a game of solitaire. Another seemed to be snoring, and the last seemed to be sulking like a moody child. Yeh Lo looked around a bit more and then carefully addressed the trio.
"Excuse me," she said.
"Yes?" the ninja playing solitaire said.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, gesturing at the school grounds despite the fact that the ninja didn't seem to be looking at her.
"We're waiting for someone," the ninja said.
"Waiting for someone?" Yeh Lo repeated, blinking. "And who would that be?"
"A girl," the ninja said.
"Do you know anything else about her?" the disguised Saffron asked. "I might be able to help."
"She's supposed to be Chinese," the ninja said.
"I see," Yeh Lo said, checking her appearance to be sure that it did appear Chinese.
"And she's supposed to have red hair and yellow skin," the ninja said.
"So I see," Yeh Lo added, checking her coloration.
"And she's supposed to be dressed in the worn clothes of an enemy sect," the ninja said. "White mostly, I believe."
The phoenix looked down at her clothes and nodded.
"And what do you plan to do when you find her?" she asked finally.
"We're being paid to attack her," the ninja said, laying down a card.
"I see," Yeh Lo said. "So I should be running...I mean going now."
"Yeah," the one doing the kata said irritably. "You should be runn...."
Two ninjas paused, looked at her, then at each other and then nearly stumbled over each other to wake up the third as Yeh Lo's eye twitched and the three ninjas were suddenly enveloped in a cloud of smoke and soot that left them choking and insensate as Yeh Lo rolled her eyes.
