Cepheid's Senshi: Just a mazoku in disguise [Episode 116786]

by Kestral

Setsuna Meiou, Sailor Pluto, had just learned a most horrible fact.

"I'M A WHAT?!"

"Half-mazoku, of course," said Xellos. "Fortunately, you take after me instead of your mother."

"A mazoku, that means I feed..." Setsuna swallowed the rest not wanting to hear it confirmed by this being.

"-on strife, suffering, mental anguish, hatred, fear, dark emotions, that kind of thing," said Xellos, getting a bit of a charge off his daughter's mental state as she was manifesting one degree or another of all of the above. As she was half-mazoku though, it was empty calories. "Of course there's some weird side effects, like with that Hotaru girl."

"WHY?" asked Pluto.

Xellos shrugged. "Well, she was cute, and she was going to regret it heavily in the morning, and she was radiating such angst and personal suffering. One of those who gets drunk and gets into the whole emotional extreme thing."

"HOW?" asked Pluto.

"I thought we already had this talk," complained Xellos. "You see there are men and women, without complicating this further -"

"WHERE?!" asked Pluto.

"I'm pretty sure you know where, there's only one way to do it and have childbirth result unless you're using magic directly," said Xellos.

"WHAT?" asked Pluto.

"Like I said, half-mazoku have their talents manifest differently. It was one of those experiments in process, I hear even some of the Dark Kings tried their hand at some of it. Well, not their hands specifically." Xellos shrugged. "Hotaru is the daughter of a human mage and someone who was pretty powerful, but she just doesn't seem to have the whole feeding off of suffering thing going for her."

"Half-mazoku?" asked Setsuna wondering if all the Senshi in this timeline had resulted from such things.

"Oh yes, some are quite promising as Dark Sorcerers, Necromancers, Monster Makers, and the like," agreed Xellos. "I must say that as experiments go, this was a lot more fun than the last one we did."

"Hotaru's got strange abilities?" asked Setsuna, switching the viewing back to Hotaru on the beach.

"Oh ho, something's awakened her power..." said Xellos. "Oh that's no good. Just feel all that affection coming off of her. It's enough to make a self-respecting mazoku sick."

"I don't see anything different about her," pointed out Setsuna.

"Well, she always was able to do something like this, but watch," said Xellos, making a gesture.

She had been born in a pool of filthy stagnant water, and quickly grown from egg to the freedom of air and flight.

Now she hunted, as did all of her kind. There were two warm bodies nearby, their chemical signature brought to her by a vagrant breeze. One suddenly stood out as having a higher nutrient balance, and she oriented on the giant.

Soft as a drifting snowflake, she landed on a clear smooth patch of her prey's skin. Her nose, sharp as a fine needle, extruded the necessary compounds to mask its puncturing through the protective dermal layers into the tasty bloodstream below.

With instinct honed by millions of years of selected breeding and survival, she struck.

FLAME. PAIN. DEATH.

Hotaru frowned, checking her arm where another mosquito had just burned to death for reasons that completely escaped her.

"Mosquitos explode into fireballs as soon as they draw blood?" asked Setsuna.

"Small ones," agreed Xellos. "Her mother is so disappointed."

"Who is my mother?" asked Setsuna, dreading the answer.

The image changed to show someone else, directed by Xellos this time. "Well look who's at a hot springs resort. Her name's Naga," deliberately misled Xellos, watching for her reaction.

"GAKKKK!" said Setsuna, seeing the girl with the bouncing... skulls... annoying laugh. THUD!

"Hmmmm. Easy as ever," commented a disappointed Xellos. "Oh well, back to tormenting Lina."
