Each of the maids and helpers had enough of an AI for that. Each of the more fully aware units was capable of doing things that could surprise their manufacturers.
Nodoka sat back and watched the cameras, leaving one auto-focussed on Hotaru. The various full-AI persocom had a mechanism for learning and imitating human behavior patterns. Sometimes they'd jump a track, and certainly their emulation programs could develop in strange manners. Though perhaps this was not quite so strange.
There were Senshi collectors and enthusiasts the world over. There were also those who preferred the various Limited Editions and customized variants. As the heir to Millenium Biomechanicals, she knew all about them. How some people forged a bond with their persocom that was beyond what had originally been thought of.
Love. Perhaps the most tragic and uncontrollable emotion. Certainly that could cause otherwise completely rational individuals to all sorts of odd behavior. It was also among those things most treasured by a large swath of the populace. Love could cause pain and suffering, or it could ease both conditions. It could cast one into the deepest despair, or elevate one to an otherwise unobtainable contentment.
The press most frequently took the stand that those who professed to love their persocoms were "whack-jobs" or outright insane. They were a little taken aback when a persocom declared their own love for their human. The media treated the whole thing more as a joke than anything else, with commentary and the usual repeated jokes about compatible hardware and software.
Nodoka knew all this. She knew that the incidents of such were rising and that eventually it would become less an opportunity to run out old jokes and more accepted as what it was. Not a revolution, but an evolution. Society changed but slowly, and not always in the way those who caused the change sought.
So it was such and so. Well enough then. There was one major problem, as Nodoka saw it. If Hotaru and her son were to become a couple, that would be perfectly fine except in regard to children. Hotaru could do anything a human woman could do, and quite a few things one could not, but bearing children was impossible with the level of technology available. It might have been possible to those whose Artifact had been found, but the understanding of all those things was still far from complete.
There were many factors she had to consider here.
Nodoka's gaze went along the banks of monitors and finally settled on a different one. After some consideration, she decided:
