Second Way - BioTech of the Soviet group. Cloned Stormtroopers. Mutant warriors. Viral and bacteriological weapons.
Third Way - Sansei as practiced by Japan and allied nations. Magic and martial arts.
Fourth Way - scavengers. China and a mysterious corporation were working in this manner. Find anything useful from the three paths and mix it all together.
With each of these together, things were ripe for other forces to get involved.
One had been operating now since the 1960s, though only certain people knew about it. They didn't particularly advertise in the paper, and they were mostly ignored by the big powers. Mostly because all involved knew that Mithril could come up with some pretty nifty equipment and none of them thought of the small group as a particularly large threat. Instead all of the major powers tried to infiltrate Mithril in order to find out more about their equipment.
The Russians had already back-engineered some crude but effective giant robots, and the Americans had done so likewise.
Finding things were going on in Nerima, a mysterious corporation named Genom had found a catspaw. In this case, the name was Tatewaki Kuno. Acquiring his family's fortune was easily done and he was put to work as a spy under the pretext that he was a samurai lord serving the Empire's best interests (or actually the international company known as Acme).
Of course, it being Tatewaki Kuno, it was fairly obvious.
Kuno stood in front of the gates, dressed in his usual blue costume. "Hold miscreant! Thou shalt not deny the Blue Thunder his due, for it is the mandate of the Heavens themselves but of their divine messengers - the ACME Corporation!"
"What's he talking about now?" asked Ranma.
"How should I know?" griped Akane.
"Behold!" said Kuno. "For the Heavens have provided the means to rid the obstacle to my love!"
"Didn't we go through this already?" asked Ranma. "The engagement was broken off."
"Verily, no one could relinquish Akane's affections by choice, therefore I have seen through thy transparent ploy!" said Kuno. "Now I shall strike with the Heaven's own blessings!"
Ranma shrugged. "Yeah, yeah, whatever."
"Ha! See if thou canst laugh off - THIS!" declared Kuno, going into the schoolyard and pulling something out from behind the school wall.
Ranma looked, and quickly identified it as:
