EVA-Heroes: The Earth Below [Episode 120559]

by Arthur Hansen

Asuka was smiling widely as she rocketed through the air. This was like riding a roller coaster times ten. She'd even totally spaced that she was supposed to be "helping" Maya.

She dived towards the ocean and then looped upwards at the last moment, unaware of the catastrophic damage she left behind her from her steadily increasing speeds. With a laugh that could not be heard over the wind, she started spinning slowly as she flew higher and higher.

She stopped suddenly, her ears slightly discomfited, as she looked out over Earth's curvature.

The young German girl's mouth opened in shock.

She was in space.

"Sir, we are having a problem finding Dr. Ritsuko and Major Katsuragi."

Gendo just gave the security man a flat look. "Explain. All essential NERV personnel are to be monitored for their locations at all times."

"They seemed to have slipped our watch somehow. They were last seen with Agent Kaji." Security was always renowned for their stoicism, a needed asset when delivering bad news to Commander Ikari.

"Make it a priority. We have to discover the cause behind the Second Child's alien abilities. Nothing else matters at this point."

"Yes, Sir. As you know, our interceptors were unable to keep up with the Second Child. The American's say they have a orbital bomber that might be able to catch our 'target' but I felt that you did not want to bring in outside agencies."

"Correct. Fuyutsuki, do any of the scenarios have anything like this as a possibility?" Ikari looked over at his second in command.

"The only thing that I could find dealt with an incursion from wielders of destiny beyond our realm." The older man looked tired, but determined.

"Plural?"

"Yes, agents of the Pandemonium and Precept. These warring factions intrude into many matters. But something that is this altering changes several things. The Agents can alter how influencing the Angels are." Fuyutsuki scrubbed his graying hair.

Ikari Gendo's eyes narrowed dangerously. "They can alter the Angel's reactions?"

"No, worse. They will attempt to do what the Old Men only dream of, controlling the Angel's directly."

"That is not impossible, as we have demonstrated." A slight smile crossed the Commander's face.

"I don't mean manipulate, like you do with Rei. I mean control utterly."

"Nothing on Earth is that powerful."

"They are not of this realm. Impossible is not a word in their languages." His second in command stared at the Tree of Life mural hidden in the shadows of the office.

"They must have limitations. These will be exploited and the project will be completed as specified." Gendo's voice was cold and stony. Nothing would stand in his way.

"I will begin researching immediately."

------------------

In an office building near the center of Tyoko-3 sat a figure in the shadows of his office. "So, Wizard. Your opening Gambit is heroes. The realm is adjusted, what is impossible becomes possible. Your CHAOS attempts to spread and cause disruption."

He stood up, his features still cloaked. Around him arose a nimbus of esoteric symbols swirling in orderly lines. Casually, as if he were merely typing at a computer console, he touched symbols, causing them to shift to new orbits, forming new words and sentences.

"Reality cohesion diminishing. Assign new parameters into sub-etheric striates." The... man... for lack of a proper term mused for a second. "The heroic imperative. Sacrifice for the good of man. How... droll."

He spun a new sentence from the Words of Creation. "Initiate binding protocol. Balance thematic energies to fulcrum ley lines in Tokyo-3. As the heroes become more powerful, their foes become more cunning. A perfectly logical and orderly way to resolve this situation with the least amount of... detectable interference."

A new voice spoke from the air. "Initiating reality warp in three seconds. Parameters locked and coded. Design with .02% of tolerance threshold. .0052% chance of detection and counteraction."

"Thank you for using G.O.D. today."

Deep with oceans, volcanoes and space the laws of reality became set in a new and different way. Mighty beings that were once simple, yet powerful, become... aware.
