Ranma & Terratoo: Not very canon. [Episode 125389]

by Kestral

As in a more typical SMJ universe:
* there had been a problem with the ship that had brought the colonists to this world.
* the only ones to survive had been the initial Terraforming Team with the shuttle that contained the plant/animal embryos and data. Oh, and Doctor Lorelei.
* not one of that Away Team had been an expert on genetic engineering or making the devices produce anything other than default products.
* the typical countries had developed in the intervening generations.
* the planet itself had not changed.
* a guy named Otaru Mamiya had gotten ahold of three marionettes, they had gone and rescued Lorelei from the colony ship, and Otaru had returned.
* mongrel cloning was used to produce male children via birth factories.

However there were significant differences as well.

* New Texas had diverged in a major fashion two generations previously because of a long departed "furry fan" aboard the colony ship. Genetic blueprints for "furries" had been uncovered and operating since then, but due to differences in the nations had not really caught on outside New Texas until after Otaru's adventures had occurred.

There were therefore fewer marionettes in New Texas than outside, and fewer petgirls outside New Texas than in.

Petgirls were not as strong, as tough, as fast, or as tireless as marionettes. They ate and drank and slept and had to use the indoor plumbing fixtures. They did not automatically know a lot of things the way a newly built marionette knew them. Petgirls had to be taught.

That said, they were capable of emotion and affection and doing things without being told to.

New Texas had developed, over the past couple of generations, schools and training and an infrastructure dealing with these neo-pets. Nor were they all weak or slow or frail. Depending on what was used for the splice, the creature could be nearly as strong or as tireless or as fast as a combat grade marionette.

Marionettes were more cost effective as troops, but petgirls often had superior senses and the ability to change their behavior based on what was going on.

They also interacted, on the whole, better than the average marionette. Those marionettes with maiden circuits were seen as superior to petgirls for the most part. The problem was that there were a very limited number of maiden circuits, whereas petgirls could be produced and it was their training that was the long and difficult process.

The attitudes about petgirls had changed some after Faust's war. While they had not been active heroes in the rescue of Lorelei, they had been actively heroic in protecting their owners and countries against superior forces.

That so many had held their own against the mass produced military marionettes had not gone unnoticed. Those who had fallen in battle might have been pets or curiosities before the battle, but the emotional ties were certainly in place thereafter. There were heroes among the number of fallen, and survivors who found their owners now viewed them in a somewhat different light.

Unfortunately, while the majority of pet owners and marionette owners were lawabiding citizens, some of those displaced by Faust's war had come up with other ideas.

Ranma though had just discovered something.
