Cardmaster Ranma: Past Pursuant [Episode 126697]

by Kestral

Ranma checked his Ranma-Cards, looking over the evidence of the altered timeline. He didn't know it was altered though. That originally there had been no study of Clow Reed's techniques by Beryl. That Beryl had not enjoyed the successes she had and that sections of Tokyo (especially Juuban ward) had not been razed to the ground.

That the Sailor Senshi had not been bound into cards and some of their future enemies had joined them before they had even come to the fullness of their villainity.

Now Thunder (Jupiter) and Windy (Uranus) were free for a day from the confines of their cards. That was the best he could manage at his current "level of mastery" as it were.

He had a rival. A friendly rival but a rival nonetheless. A little girl named Sakura who apparently had a boyfriend in China named Li. It was the first time he'd had a rival who was a little kid, previously the closest he'd come was a boy in Junior High named Ryo-something.

Responsibility weighed in on him. He was now responsible for these cards, and for finding a way to free them if it became available.

His apparently carefree existence of a few months ago had gone. Sometimes he missed it. Despite gaining friends and a sort of little sister out of the events.

Genma had been lost until he'd overheard a comment from two schoolboys and had followed them to hear more.

One of the boys who attended a school nearby apparently turned into a cute girl when splashed with cold water.

He wasn't sure why Ranma had left after the Amazon Village debacle. Not aware that a slight feeling of danger (actually coming from being observed by Sailor Pluto) had caused Ranma to hold back from the feast. Otherwise it had played out much the same, though Genma had noticed that Ranma had seemed to be looking around as if he had expected an attack.

Still, whatever odd reason, the boy had abandoned his father and vanished off the face of the Earth. Neither he nor the purple haired bundle of animosity had found any sign of Ranma thereafter. He knew that purple-hair hadn't found Ranma because the girl was still looking.

Here was a lead though. He could track Ranma down, capture him, and drag him off to be married to one of Soun's daughters. End of training trip, assurance the schools would continue, and so on.

Now all he had to do was keep an eye out for Ranma at this school.

He kicked a rock, then watched as it briefly tumbled along the edge before tumbling down the crevasse into the depths below.

Ryoga Hibiki had pursued Ranma (the coward!) into China, where he had seen Hell. Then returned to find a different flavor of Hell had bloomed in his absence.

They were rebuilding, of course. Buildings destroyed in the events of a few scant months ago had been torn down and were being rebuilt. The Tokyo Tower was mostly fixed, which made a difference to those who valued television reception. Some areas, like that Mugen Gakuen, remained scars on the earth.

"...Ranma?"

Ryoga Hibiki's head came up. Two little girls nearby, discussing something. Yet the name of his hated rival and bread-thief had been brought up.

Carefully, not looking away lest he lose them, Ryoga edged closer to the park bench.

"So what about this new rival of yours?" asked Tomoyo.

"You mean Ranma?" asked Sakura. "He's just starting out and his cards are really different, but he's okay."

"So Li doesn't have to worry yet?" teased Tomoyo.

"Ahhh, it's not like that," declared the easily flustered (in some ways) Sakura.

"It's so fun to tease you, Sakura-chan," said Tomoyo. "So he has 'Ranma Cards' to your 'Sakura Cards'?"

"They're not the same, and he hasn't made them his the way these are mine," said Sakura. "He's older than me and he goes to a local high school."

"Oooh, an older man?" teased Tomoyo again.

"It's not like that," insisted Sakura.

Ryoga had heard enough and went crashing off. Not only was Saotome here, he was now doing something with little girls! He had to be caught and punished!
