Lisa steeled herself, the return to normal space had been very hard, nauseating almost, but they had known it was coming, they had known for the past two days, when everything had gone to hell. It had been less than ten minutes onto the fold when engineering reported the abnormalities, five minutes later all measure of control was lost as the fold bubble changed and distorted, leaving the crews of the warships to play a horrible, and very deadly, waiting game.
But that was in the past, luckily, and there were far more pressing issues at hand, like the invid. “Status?”
“Uh…. I…” the senior Comm. officer muttered, her face pale as chalk. “this can’t…”
“Eh… we have contacts!” it was the senior Sensor officer “lots of them… Zentradi, they, glup they are coming in an attack vector… I think it is Black lynx”
“What?!”
“That’s not it sir… we, I am picking up serious traffic, military and... oh, hell, I think its better if I put this on” she finished with an audible glup
“…quadroon is already in the air, Good Hunting Commander”
“The only thing I’ll be hunting for is a pineapple salad”
The voices… it, it just couldn’t… a part of Lisa’s mind wanted to think this was some sort of sick practical joke, but…
“Rick I…” she turned towards her husband but he was gone… and then realization hit her “pineapple salad…” and she knew, she remembered that day, it was one of those days that had ended etched up in her memory.
“Damnit Rick…” he was probably heading to the flightdeck as fast as humanly possible. A part of her wanted to stop him dry before he could do something stupid, but…
“Sir?”
“Signal the fleet, We’ll go with Delta Three… and have the ships scramble as much fighters as possible, but have Diamondback on standy, Admiral Hunter… he is going to lead them down to the planet.”
She already had enough problems on her hands; Rick was going to need to take care of himself for this one, with a bit of help from the diamondbacks…
