Rick grimaced. Things were warming up quite a bit. This would have been a murderous de-orbit in his old VF-1. But the Alpha Veritech (VF-6) was redesigned with plasma weapons in mind. And the plasma from reentry out there was not nearly as furious as Invid plasma bolts.
His communicator pinged at him. A young woman appeared on the intercom. "Admiral Hunter? We are about one minute out from first contact."
"Thank you, Dana. We'll need every edge against this group of Zentraedi." He noted a worried look. "Don't worry, Dana. We aren't here to slaughter them. Just run them off while Lisa gives us some breathing room upstairs."
"What are we going to do, Admiral?" Lieutenant Sterling asked.
"We are going to save Earth."
--------
"The enemy is still on course! Designating the new fighter group Zulu-Whiskey!" Lisa Hayes shouted. "They are coming in at MACH 8!"
"Keep the new fleet on screen!" Captain Gloval shouted. "How long until the first enemy group is within range of our fighters?"
"Just moments. These are a new type also." Lisa paused for a second. "Wait! I am receiving a transmission from the new fleet in orbit that is using RDF codes."
With a snap-hiss, the radio was turned on so they could hear it on the bridge of the SDF-1. "This is Admiral Hayes. All Veritechs are to clear firing zones fifteen through thirty," a strong, female voice commanded.
Claudia looked over at her friend oddly. That sounded like Lisa Hayes. But she was standing right next to her on this bridge. And that impossible Admiral Rick Hunter in 'Diamond' Squadron!
"Main cannons are charged!" an unknown male voice declared.
Lisa Hayes shared a shocked glance with Claudia. Main cannons?
"Fire!" the unknown 'Admiral' Hayes commanded.
The main ship in low orbit spat out a wave of pure destruction. The Zentraedi battle cruiser barely had time react before it was blasted out of the air. The shot continued deep into the water, releasing a huge vapor cloud.
"We have lost RADAR contact with all of Zulu-Whiskey fighters!" Vanessa Leads shouted suddenly.
"What? They are within 100 miles!" Captain Gloval shouted out in shock.
"Commander Folker! Confirm unknown force that dropped off RADAR on vector 1523!" Lisa shouted.
--------
Roy Folker was in Skull One as he turned to look in the direction that Lisa had told him to. "I can see them with eyeball mark ones, but they don't show up on any sensor! Small little things too."
The battle was short and very one-sided when the new and different mecha screamed in while still shedding heat and spead. Even before a dozen battlepods had been destroyed, the Zentraedi had started to retreat from their nearly invisible enemies.
One particular humanoid mecha had been itching for a fight with a particular Micronian 'Ace.' The ace female Zentraedi Miriya tried everything she could, but she could not lose the strange new Micronian mecha and not find the one she really wanted. These reinforcements were the very space devils themselves. Suddenly, she smiled. This was the challenge she craved.
Suddenly, a Shadow Fighter charged out of nowhere while firing, shearing off her right arm at the shoulder and the large missile pod.
Flight Admiral Hunter grinned like a kid at Christmas time. "Sorry, Miriya. You get to be introduced to Micronian culture a slightly different way." Rick kept a close eye on Roy's fighter, but the old VFs where hardly in danger from the Quadrino's aces at this point.
"You got mom stopped, Rick?" Dana Sterling asked as she drifted closer to the Flight Admiral in her own Shadow Fighter.
"Looks like it. They are starting to retreat now." Rick flipped a switch. "How are things up in orbit, Lisa?"
--------
Lisa Hayes on the bridge of the SDF-1 finally sighed a breath of relief. "The Enemy is retreating. Zulu-Whiskey is keeping a distance of fifty kilometers. Only the main snip appears to look like an enemy ship. The others... look human made."
"Hail the unknown fleet!" Captain Gloval commanded.
