Kaiba opened the door, but he didn't see anyone. Was someone playing a prank?
"Er, down here, sir."
Kaiba looked down to see an English boy wearing glasses and with a long stick strapped to his back. Kaiba then realized who this kid was. "Negi Springfield?"
"Yes, sir. You are Seto Kaiba, my landlord/roommate?"
"That's me. Sorry, I forgot your boss mentioned your... status. Grab your bags and make yourself at home."
With a bow, Negi grabbed his bags and followed Seto into the apartment. "Where would you like my things?"
"Set them by the couch for now. Until the others get here, we'll put off deciding who gets which room. Want a drink?"
"Sweet sake if you have it. I've grown to like it thanks to several of my students."
Kaiba opened the fridge and rummaged through it, wondering if he even had sweet sake. "So, how'd a kid like you end up a teacher at a girls' academy? Sounds like something the creator of Love Hina would write about in a manga."
"Let's just say I'm a little smarter than most people take me for. Also, my job was chosen for me, not by me."
Finally finding some sweet sake, Kaiba pulled out a bottle and poured some into a cup for Negi. "Well, at least you didn't end up like me - adopted by a bastard like my stepfather, Gozaboro Kaiba. He put me through hell in order to be the perfect heir to Kaiba Corp."
"What happened to him?"
Memories of Gozaboro and Noa flooded Kaiba's mind from back during Battle City."...I'd rather not discuss it. Here's your drink."
Negi took the cup and drank some. "Thank you. So, why is someone like you renting out an apartment?"
"I'm taking a vacation of sorts from my company. We've been working about triple overtime to prepare Kaiba World, my latest project, after I was... sidetracked." Now he was recalling the Doma Incident. "We somehow managed to finish way early and now we have to wait for opening day."
"Why couldn't you just open early?"
"Ironclad contract. Opening day is set in stone and cannot be changed, even if we got done early."
At least he's not a Magi-in-training like me, Negi thought. I was just lucky to have been made an actual teacher thanks to the test on Library Island. And then there's Evangeline... not gonna go there!
"So why did your boss make arrangements for you to come here?"
Negi sighed heavily. "Originally, due to room-shortage on the campus, I had to bunk with the Dean's granddaughter and her roommate, both of which are students of mine.. Said roommate has been having trouble studying as about everyone in the class comes by with questions and/or to just visit me. Therefore, I decided to move out and give her a chance to get back into her studies. And before you say anything, I've made sure no one but the Dean knows where I'm living right now so you can breathe easy concerning schoolgirls showing up on your doorstep."
"My kid brother would probably beg you to invite some of your students over if there was a chance for me getting one of them as a girlfriend, which I doubt would happen."
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
