If he had been Ranma Saotome, as he might have originally become, the likelihood that this would turn out at all well would have been very remote.

Ranma Mizuno, on the other hand, had recently had his pride savaged and his accomplishments revealed as insufficient.

He was also fairly well read. While not nearly up to Ami's level, he'd had enough tutoring over the years to recognize a few things - particularly with the clue of the writing of the hammer.

Ranma looked at the two wolves. "Freke and Gere, I think." Two ravens. "Hugin and Mugin?" Big damn spear. "Gungnir?" Tall one-eyed grey bearded guy who looked tough enough to wrestle a wolf that could swallow the moon. "Sir?"

Noting the boy holding Mjolnir was bowing in respect, the old gentleman made a waving away gesture. "Oh bloody Hel, enough of that. You're a warrior boy. Let's see what you look like under that guise."

Ranma felt the "Thor" guise stripped from him. Now he was merely a boy holding a stick of wood. "Uhm, I'm sorry?"

"Don't be," said another tall guy, this one with both eyes though they seemed to be constantly looking elsewhere. "Until you did that, even I could not see where the hammer had fallen."

"Ah," said Ranma. That certainly explained the timing. "Well, uhm, I guess you want this back."

The one-eyed guy and the watching guy were slowly being joined by others. Ranma set the wooden stick down in front of the group and tried to figure out what he could say or do at this juncture. Some of the stories of Wotan or Odin were not at all complimentary. Odin was also the lord of the hangman's tree. The early Vikings hadn't exactly been the most kindly of societies, at least to outsiders.
