'That Pikachu doesn't seem to want to obey Ash,' Kara thought to herself. 'At least the Poliwag is obedient.'
Kara amusedly added, 'Well, so am I.'
Kara saw that the girl, Misty, was disappointed that Kara hadn't been called out for the latest battle. Supergirl shrugged and used her vision to hunt for any information on Pokeballs in any sort of Public Library, School, or Pokemart. She found a list of about twenty specific types of Pokeballs beyond the basic type.
'Interesting. Some sort of nut called an Apricorn can be used to make Pokeballs. I know I should have asked Ash about Pokeballs, but I needed something to do while waiting for the next battle. Making Pokeballs for Ash looks like it might be a decent hobby.'
Supergirl watched as her 'owner' entered the outskirts of Pewter City as the sun had just dropped to halfway past the horizon. She mentally prepared herself for the upcoming fight.
'Ah. Ash is learning how to be a fight coach. I'll have to talk to that Pikachu about his attitude. I'll also have to talk to Ash about giving his other Pokemon names. Maybe that'll help out.'
As Kara was musing, Ash had entered the Gym and issued his challenge. The Gym Leader, Brock, accepted and tossed out a Geodude.
"Poliwag, I choose you!" Ash called out and sent Poliwag out.
Brock ordered, "Rock Throw!"
"Water Gun!" Ash called.
The two Pokemon fired off their attacks simultaneously. The Poliwag took a lot of damage from the Rock Throw, but not as much as Geodude took from the Water Gun. The two exchanged some more attacks, but it was Poliwag that came out the victor. However, Poliwag was close to fainting by the time the battle was over.
Brock said, "If that is your only way to fight Rock Pokemon, you might as well give up. Onix, go!"
Seeing the Onix, Ash pulled his Pokedex out and scanned it.
"Onix. The rock snake Pokemon. This Pokemon can grow up to ten meters in length."
Ash held out a Pokeball. "Poliwag, return!"
Up on a balcony, Misty watched the battle with great interest. She saw that Ash was a bit nervous about his next move. Her eyes lit up as Ash pulled out his black and gold Pokeball.
Taking a deep breath Ash released his starter Pokemon. "Supergirl, go!"
Brock was taken aback by Kara's appearance. He rubbed a hand through his hair and gave a light chuckle.
"I didn't believe the stories at first. But, I see they are true. All right. Onix! Dig!"
Ash pulled out his Pokedex and checked Kara's attacks. "Supergirl! Mach Punch!"
Kara flew forward and gave the Onix a blow on the chin. 'I had to sacrifice power for speed.'
Even though Onix took a lot of damage from the Fighting move, it still managed to burrow underground. Supergirl, subconsciously, hovered above the battlefield. Ash brought up one of the attacks that Dexter, Ash's Pokedex, listed for Kara.
"Supergirl! Focus Punch!"
Kara mentally chuckled. 'Now, I'm sacrificing speed for power.'
Onix's attempt to hit Supergirl with his blasting up from underneath Kara failed miserably, since Kara was able to instinctively dodge the Ground based attack. Supergirl struck Onix with an incredibly forceful blow and knocked the rock snake out.
Up on the balcony, Misty had stars in her eyes. 'She's so beautiful.'
Brock sighed, as he held out a badge. "Fighting moves on a Flying Pokemon? Didn't expect that. You have earned the Boulder Badge."
Ash took the badge gratefully. "Thank you."
Supergirl quietly laughed to herself, while Misty rolled her eyes upwards.
He held the badge up and yelled, "All right! My first badge!"
Brock said, "You need a minimum of eight badges to participate in Indigo League."
Ash nodded and looked out the door. He sighed heavily.
"That fight took longer than I thought. The Pokecenter already has its shutters down."
Brock did his best to keep from drooling about Kara, as he spoke to Ash.
"I should be able to feed two more people. I am curious about your Pokemon. By the way, I do have Pokemon food also. I might not be as good as a Pokecenter, but I'm good enough for battle recovery."
Ash looked at Brock and then up at Misty, who was still staring at Supergirl. "Er." Ash hesitated, until he saw Supergirl nod towards him. "Okay. Thank you."
Ash, Supergirl, and Misty followed Brock to an area behind the Gym portion of the building: the home of Brock and his family.
