Brock hid his drooling and asked, "So, Ash? Just how did you wind up with her as your Pokemon?"
'Am I going to have to repeat this story every time,' Ash thought while rolling his eyes. "Well, it's like this...."
Ash told how Professor Oak had only three Pokemon and his sacrifice and what Professor Oak had done to insure that he would be able to go on his Pokemon journey. He left out Supergirl's origins and the fact that she could speak normally. Supergirl covered her mouth and hid her laughter.
Brock nodded, "I encountered those other three Trainers. They were quite formidable for just starting out."
Brock put out some more stew and sighed heavily.
Misty asked, "Something wrong?"
"Nothing you can solve. I want to go out into the world and learn how to be a Pokemon Breeder, but I have to take care of my family."
A boy between Ash and Brock's age looked at Brock and shook his head.
Brock noticed that and asked, "What's wrong Jiro?"
The boy, Jiro, put his eating utensils down and said, "Well, Brock. I'd like to become the Pewter Gym Leader someday, but I have no Pokemon. And,..."
Ash looked at Misty and then Supergirl before speaking. "Maybe Brock can help you catch some Rock Pokemon."
"Mount Moon to the West is closest for getting a Geodude. Mount Silver to the East has Rhydon living on it. Onix are found on the Indigo Plateau or in the Rock Tunnel. Those last three locales are more than a day's journey," Brock replied. "I can't leave the Gym unattended for that length of time, and there is the fact that my family will be without me for that time. By the way Ash, I'd like to thank you for having your Pokemon out for this meal. It's been a real treat for my younger siblings."
"You're welcome. I just wish there was some way to solve this problem."
"Don't worry about it," Brock said.
Ash and the others finished their meal in silence. After being shown his bedroom, Ash recalled Supergirl into her Pokeball and lay on the bed. He heard Supergirl's voice talking to him.
"Ash. Don't yell. This is just one of my powers. Super-ventriloquism. I can talk to you from inside the Pokeball. You can just whisper your words and I'll hear them. This way we can talk in private."
In shock, Ash whispered, "You didn't do this before."
"Hmmm. The idea didn't come to me until dinner. I feel sorry for Brock. I don't see any way out for him."
"Well... Are you okay in that Pokeball?" Ash quickly changed the subject.
"I'm fine. It's about Pokeballs that I wanted to talk to you about."
"Pokeballs? Why?"
"Yes, Pokeballs. As to why, I am from a family of scientists. How Pokeballs are made have triggered my scientific curiosity and I used my vision powers to read about their construction from the Public Libraries. You'll have to get the Apricorns, because let's face it. To the world at large, I'm a Pokemon."
"Apricorns?" Ash asked confused.
"Sorry, I should have explained. While I'm being stored in my Pokeball, I want to take up making Pokeballs as a hobby. If you can get a hold of an Apricorn, I can make special Pokeballs that work better on certain types of Pokemon."
Ash nodded. "I'll see what I can do. It sounds interesting. Good-night, Kara."
"Good-night, Ash."
Before sleep took hold of him, Ash thought about Brock. "There has to be a way to help him."
