Ami flinched under that mild rebuke.
"Well, I suppose it's a time for ending secrets," said Doctor Mizuno with a sigh.
"Secrets?" asked Ami. "You mean that you were a sailorsuited warrior of love and justice when you were my age, saving the world from demonic beings from some dark dimension?!"
Doctor Mizuno looked towards her daughter briefly and considered for a moment answering in the affirmative. "No dear."
"You transform into an ancient goddess?" tried Ami.
"When I was younger," said Doctor Mizuno, "there were some young men who thought something like that."
"Eeep," said Ami.
"However, I have never been a superhero, nor undergone magical transformations, nor piloted a giant robot, or even professed to have superhuman abilities," continued the physician. "Even if sometimes the administrators who work out my schedule at the hospital seem to attribute superhuman endurance to me."
"Oh," said Ami, who'd hoped on some level that such would be the case. If her mother had done something like that, she likely wouldn't find her mother being too harsh with her.
"On the other hand, I have seen magic at work before," said the pediatrician. "However that doesn't make it entirely clear what to do in this situation. I take it those reports of yoma and strange disappearances are connected with your battles, Ami?"
Ami nodded.
"Well, restricting you when lives are at stake hardly seems appropriate," said the doctor. "I am disappointed in you, Ami. I thought you were the responsible one."
"I am, it's just that I didn't want anyone to get hurt or worry about me..." said Ami.
"How many months has this been going on?" asked the doctor.
"Only two!" Ami hastened to put in.
"What can you tell me about this menace you're fighting then," said the doctor, shifting in her chair to make herself more comfortable. She suspected this would take awhile.
When Ami had finished, Doctor Mizuno had come to a decision. She would:
