"Still a genie? It was no nightmare," Lina muttered. "I really should see what other advantages I have as a genie."
Lina pulled the gold book down and opened it up. She walked over to the lab and stuffed the Orihalcum statue into the wide silk scarf that wrapped around her waist like a belt.
"Okay. I should be able to see the pattern that a magic spell has and unravel it or sew a pattern by using threads of magic," Lina muttered, as she read the book.
She grabbed her sword, which had been left untouched by Lina's transformation, but was brought into the gem. Lina used some of her ability to cause the sword to float in front of her. Lina stared at the sword and did a simple pattern weaving that was described in the book over the sword.
"That is a little more difficult that it seems," Lina said, as she wiped her brow.
She grabbed the sword and it glowed with a reddish light. A quick thought, and the light went out.
"That style of magic is going to be a challenge to learn," Lina thought.
She flipped through the book and read some more. Chuckling slightly, she went over to her library and pulled two books down. She flipped through the first book and gave an amused snort, as she memorized the spell. She did the same with the second book and went back to reading 'How to Be a Genie'.
"Ra Tilt and Vice Freeze. Now, I can figure out the formulas for casting those two spells. My affinity for all Shamanistic spells went up."
Lina let the three books return to the shelves, and she grabbed books on Magic Weaving. Before opening the books, she hesitated and hunted up a copy of a book that she only saw a battered and heavily stained copy of. She opened her copy of the book and started reading. She found the complete runes for another spell and the finishing touches for another. After reading the book, she shivered and it wasn't due to her new outfit.
"Last resort for that spell," Lina whispered. "I need to get on the magic weaving."
Lina removed the light pattern from her sword. She stopped and looked in a full-length mirror that her new home had. She stared at her reflection and concentrated. Her clothes shifted back to what she was wearing before she was turned into a genie. She reattached the sword to her belt and smiled.
"At least I'm out of that silly costume for now," Lina thought and took a look at her wrists. "Well, almost. I still have the gold bracers."
She stared at her reflection and changed her outfit into the one she wore when was wandering around with Naga the White Serpent. Now, the gold bracers looked like they belonged with the outfit. Lina nodded in satisfaction
Lina moved the statue from her belt to her cape and looked up. "Any time now Gourry."
Lina sighed and went back to studying spell weaving. She just finished the first set of lessons when she felt a tug on the center of her back. Lina closed her eyes and let herself be drawn upwards. Lina turned into red smoke and poured through the surface of the gem.
"Huh?" Gourry said, as Lina appeared before him. "Lina, why didn't you come out for breakfast."
Lina sighed and buried her face in her hand. "Gourry. While I'm in there, I am trapped in the gem. You have to open the door for me to come out by rubbing the gemstone. If you don't, I can't leave."
"Oh. Sorry."
Lina held up the statue and stared Gourry in the eye. "I figured out what they were after, although I'm not sure what it is yet. This is now a hindrance. We need to make it look like we dropped this while we were avoiding them."
"Okay, how do we do that?"
"I'll explain on the way," Lina said.
The genie and her master quickly left Gourry's campfire and made their way towards Atlas City. As the two of them waded through a shallow river, Lina dropped the Orihalcum statue into the river and smirked.
"Lina, how long can you stay out of the ring?"
Lina breathed a sigh of relief. "I told you before, I go back in when you no longer need me outside. Once you don't need me or go to sleep, I go right back into the gem."
"I'd like to have some company, while were traveling," Gourry said.
Lina silently accepted the inadvertent order that Gourry had given her.
