"Hey, Lina. Why did you drop the statue like that? I thought you wanted to keep it from them."
"There was something inside the statue. It was a small stone. I found it while I was inside your ring. I left that stone back in the gem," Lina replied. "The statue is now a decoy. My best guess is that stone object is what they were really after. I'm not sure what that stone is, but it is very powerful."
"Very powerful. It causes my whole body to vibrate when I touch it," Lina thought with a shudder.
Gourry scratched his head and shrugged. "Lina. I need to make sure I remember something. I hope you don't mind that I have to do it."
"Gourry, whether I mind or not. I probably have no choice in the matter. Go ahead."
"All right. Lina go back into the ring."
Lina shook her head in disgust and turned into smoke that poured into the ring. Gourry rubbed the ring releasing Lina once more. He repeated the procedure ten times.
After the tenth release, Lina angrily said. "Why are you doing this?"
"I'm making sure I remember that I know how to get you back out of the ring," Gourry said.
Lina growled as glared at the bracers on her wrists and thought, "This genie nonsense is going to become very irritating very quickly."
Gourry left Lina alone for a while. Lina cast a glance at Gourry's ring, before practicing a bit with simple spell weaving magic.
"I know Gourry means well," Lina thought sadly. "I guess it could be worse. Most others would look at me like nothing more than a weapon to be aimed at their enemies."
Gourry watched Lina for a bit and looked at the night sky. He glanced down at his ring and rubbed the gem. Lina immediately stiffened and turned towards Gourry.
"I'm going to be going to bed shortly Lina. I guess you should return to the ring and get some sleep as well. I'm going to hold off on bringing you back out, until I reach Atlas. I should be able to make better time by myself."
Lina turned back into smoke and flowed into the gemstone. Gourry tapped the gem lightly and looked down at his sword hilt.
"Hmm. Life does throw changes at me."
