Ranma watched from the observation lounge, as Nabiki and her bracelet were examined by the League’s current magic experts; Dr. Fate and Zatanna.
Of course, that wasn’t to say he wasn’t being examined as well. His ring hand was on some sort of scanner, as several Guardians from Oa were examining the properties of the Black Lantern Ring.
They still had yet to admit just how that ring had escaped Oa.
Flashback...
Inside the lab, just as the ring was about to be sealed until they were ready to conduct more tests, a certain woman popped into the heavily shielded room.
“Yes, I did it!” shouted Sailor Moon. “Said I couldn’t teleport on my own without the Inners; I sure ... showed ... them. Um, I just teleported into a room filled with midget youmas.”
“Do you know what these ‘youma’ are?”
“Nope.”
“Moon Gorgeous Meditation!”
As the explosions began, the scientists grabbed the Black Ring, running to the exit before the dumpling headed intruder could destroy their work.
Sadly, it was not to be.
“NOW WHERE AM I?”
The running scientists stopped, catching sight of what appeared to be a human with a large backpack and a striped bandana.
“Ranma; this is all your fault. I’ve ended up surrounded by green demons!”
One of the scientists sighed. “We really need better security.”
“Bakusai Tenketsu!”
“Amazing,” said Dr. Fate. “The sheer force available from the bracelet is beyond any I have seen. Such a formation usually kills the maker.”
“Nearly did,” said Nabiki. She had yet to fully explain what was required now that she had put it on. But their questions were zeroing in on those facts.
“But to combine those four talismans and by accident...” said Fate, amazed at the possible potential Nabiki might have.
Zatanna was observing Nabiki while Fate observed the manacle. She noticed that the young girl grew flushed on occasion when questions ventured more towards the events after she received the manacle. “Fate, could you leave us alone for a bit. Girl talk.”
“Ah,” said Fate, turning to leave. “The one mystery of the universe even my magic cannot solve. Very well. Let me know when you finish, so I may discuss more with her.”
As soon as the door shut, Zatanna smirked, turning towards Nabiki with a face that would have made the old Ice Queen proud. “So, honey; tell me about what’s got you so hot under the collar?”
“So what are they doing now?” asked Ranma.
John shrugged. “With them, I never know.”
“You think they’ll want the ring back?”
“Why? You grown attached to it already?”
Ranma nodded. “Nabiki; without it, the manacle’s power will kill her.”
“I see. Think she’ll tell Fate and Zatanna?”
“Hope so.” Ranma turned back to see the Guardians still talking. “I just wish I knew what they think of me?”
“Perhaps he can help us find the villains who attacked our research center. They certainly looked human.”
“True,” said another Guardian. “And the male did seem to desire to fight a Ranma, and here we have one before us.”
“But John Stewart vouched for his character. The description he gave would fit a possible chosen we had envisioned for the bearer of that responsibility.”
“Can we get back to finding the crazy female human who attacked us “in the name of the moon”; such attacks cannot be treated lightly.”
“Very true,” said another. “Perhaps we can give this Ranma that for his first mission. He must discover the blond attacker’s identity and bring her to us for judgment, as well as the fanged one.”
The others nodded.
“What’s the matter, kid?” asked John.
Ranma looked back towards the Guardians. “You ever have the feeling your death warrant was just signed.”
John smiled. “Welcome to the Justice League, kid.”
