The phone ring startled Ami, who was deeply inside her favorite book of the week.
Ami waited a bit, hoping her mother would be near it and she wouldn't have to stop reading.
When she didn't hear any reply at the third ring, she quickly walked out of her room, book still in hand, to answer the call.
"Moshi moshi," she said as she picked up the phone with the seventh ring.
"Ami? It's me, Usagi," Ami heard.
"Usagi?" she replied, a bit hopeful. Since... the incident, Usagi stopped using the phone.
They only met in Senshi business, and for that they used the communicator. She was the one who realized this the most, as she was the one who usually had to help Usagi with the homework. It was a hard period, but they all agreed that even if they reminded Usagi that she was still loved by her friends when they met, they had to let her some space to recover.
"I'm sorry for not calling you guys, but..." Usagi said.
"We understand. Are... are you feeling better?" Ami asked with hesitation.
"I... don't know. I think I am, but..." Usagi replied weakly, before her voice suddenly sounded firm and very determined. "Regardless, I need to talk with you, Ami. I need your advice."
"Yes, Usagi-s-" She started to say, but she became speechless when she realized what she was going to say.
"Ami?" Usagi said. "Ami, are you alright?"
"Eh? Oh, sorry, Usagi-chan. I spaced out a bit," Ami quickly said.
"Er... If you are busy-" Usagi started to say, a bit puzzled.
"Not at all, Usagi. I'll be glad to help you," Ami said. "Should I call the others?"
Usagi didn't say anything for a moment. "No. Sorry, I'm not ready for that... yet."
"It's OK. Take your time," Ami said, trying to sound soothing.
"Thanks. Can I go to your house?"
Ami looked at the time. "I think so. I think my mother is buying groceries now, but I'm sure she'll be glad to see you when she returns," she said.
"Thanks again. See you soon," Usagi said.
"Bye, Usagi," Ami said before she hanged down the phone.
She returned to her room, but she found she couldn't resume her reading. Her mind was still puzzled and amazed about what she had almost said. Why would she want to address her old friend as 'Usagi-sama'?
