Light of Darkness, Shadow of Light: Homecoming and Return to Norm (Sorta...) [Episode 138733]

by TuZiWang

Ranma Saotome was a martial artist of top caliber. Ranma Saotome was not afraid of anything (cats and other feline critters not withstanding). Ranma Saotome was running for his life (quite like a scared little forest elf, not of the Middle Earth type) from a crazy Amazon chick that apparently wanted his head upon a pike due to his stupid father.

It was about three days after that fiasco at the village, and he had gotten separated from his father somewhere along the chase. As it was raining quite heavily, he (currently a she) was seeking refuge from the outside weather in a cave. Little did he know that this was the trigger of a momentous event that would change his life forever.

Now, let’s take a good look at the more mystical side of the world. There are mystic powers in the world, as Ranma would testify to. Some of them good, some of them bad, some of them obeying the laws of nature, and some of them bending the laws so bizarrely that you’d be wondering how it got to such conditions when even breaking it didn’t seem so impossible. These powers flowed through the weaves of the universe, influencing and being influenced by those who live within it.

At certain points, the weaves would come together and form interesting little spots such as Jusenkyo (from which Ranma just came from with a little souvenir) and the Bermuda Triangle. These points can do many sorts of things, depending on the power that flowed into the weave at that point. Most often, the opposing forces of good, evil, laws, and chaos merely canceled each other out, forming safe nodes for mages to draw power from. However, in the case of places like Jusenkyo and the Bermuda, the tendencies of these powers becomes anywhere from mildly lenient to completely part of a certain alignment. This would result in occurrences that probably wouldn’t happen elsewhere, such as the drowning of creatures that normally would be impossible to occur in nature and rifts in the time-space continuum.

However, as the powers influence the people, the people also influenced the weaves, and a person under the correct influence at the right place and the right time would be able to cause some darn near impossible things happen. A good example would be Ryouga’s extreme case involving a curse, hereditary nature on how mystic forces acts around him, and his mentality, the ability to get lost and jump to random locations no matter how improbable due to the warping of space part of the fabric of time-space (see Improbability Engine for more details).

In this case, Ranma’s innate ability to attract chaos, in addition to the spells on him, new and old, jumpstarted a chain of events that rapidly spun out of control. The mystical weaves just so happens to come together into a neat little node in that cave, and at the same time just so happens to affect time. Add in Ranma base alignment to mystical forces, the power and number of curses and other spells on him, and the coincidence that there was at that exact moment a surge in the power of the weaves, and something completely unexpected happened.

Ranma Saotome disappeared.
