They'd come here for the same reason Ranma had - to get away from everyone and to come to terms with the changes. They'd gone as a group because each of the others had been similarly affected and knew what they were going through.
In a remarkable display of bad timing, the girl had stumbled into the group at precisely the point they were most bellicose.
The bullies themselves weren't natural killers. They weren't even terribly effectual as minor villains. They'd knocked the girl down and would have kicked her a few times before going off to sulk and whine elsewhere.
Unfortunately, Ranma arrived, kicked their butts - and sent them scurrying.
Which would end up the same - the four going off to whine and sulk in a more remote location. It was just they had extra bruises and more to whine about.
Ranma looked at the girl, helped her up, and felt a question bubble up from nowhere. "Are you the 'special one just for me'?"
