Inside NERV, Nagisa grimaced, as she thought, "Mecha with extension cords? Why?"
The NERV personnel watched as the EVA's took potshots at the approaching Angel. Their shots continually bounced off. A sudden beam of light shot forth and the two EVA's dodged the incoming blast.
Misato slammed her fist down on a table. "Damn it! That things AT field is too strong."
Maya listened to a report and said, "UN and JSDF air complements are moving in to help the Evangelion units. Use of the N2 mine is probable."
Nagisa looked at the battle on the screen and thought out loud. "I wonder where the Fuji-One and Fuji-Two are."
Misato gave Nagisa a sour look. "Why would any one want to use such out of date craft? They're maintained, but not of any practical use."
Still looking at the battle, Nagisa replied, "I was just thinking out loud. If I recall correctly, the Fuji-Two has a reactor dedicated to powering its main laser. At the time, that reactor could light up half of Tokyo."
Misato stared at Nagisa and quickly snatched up a phone. "General, this is Captain Katsuragi of NERV. I want you to launch the Fuji-Two and have it fire its main laser at the Angel and keep the pressure on. I don't care if it's a museum piece! Just do it!"
Misato slammed the phone down. "Maya open a channel to the Evangelion units."
"Yes, Ma'am."
"Rei! Shinji! Hold your fire against the Fifth Angel until I give the word. We're going to try something."
Maya said, "Fuji-Two has been launched and should be within firing range in a couple of minutes. Captain Kyuu is awaiting orders."
"Put him on."
An old man appeared on the screen. His six-inch long eyebrows and baldhead were his most notable features.
"Captain Kyuu, I know this is sudden."
"To say the least, Captain Katsuragi. All my men are retired. Why do you want the Fuji-Two?"
Misato said, "I want you to fire your laser at the Angel from the opposite side of the Evangelion units and not let up on the pressure. Burn out circuits if you have to. Just don't let the continuing beam of your laser falter. I'm hoping the Angel has to lower its AT field to attack."
Maya said, "Fuji-Two in position."
Captain Kyuu said, "If you're wrong, we're going to die. Ah, hell with it. I didn't want to die of old age anyway. Initiating heat beam."
Everyone watched as the giant flying fortress that was Fuji-Two fired off its attack. The Angel's AT field was brought into full view by the continuing bolt. However, the AT field looked like half a globe.
Misato said, "Maya, get me the EVA pilots. Shinji. Rei. Open fire upon the Angel with your rifles."
Rei asked, "Won't the AT field be in our way?"
Misato shook her head. "I'm betting that Ramiel has its entire AT field be used to block the attack by the Fuji-Two. Open fire!"
The two Eva pilots did so. Misato's hunch was right, the blasts from the rifles did not have the AT field blocking them. The repeated shots smashed into the giant black diamond. Soon the AT field came crumbling down and the heat beam from the Fuji-Two incinerated the Angel and boiled the sea where it struck. After a second, the beam cut off. Maya put Captain Kyuu's call up on the main screen.
Captain Kyuu asked, "Anyone want boiled fish for supper? We have plenty."
Ignoring the bad joke, Misato said, "Captain Kyuu, as of now the Fuji-Two is going to be assigned to NERV. We'll see if the Fuji-One is of similar use. Any objections or questions?"
"I guess this means our pension has been suspended," Captain Kyuu said.
"We'll discuss that later. Shinji. Rei. Report back to base."
Misato had the communications cut off, as she turned to face Nagisa.
"I know the craft was declassified, but why would a girl your age be interested in something like that?"
Nagisa bit her lower lip. "I had a bad dream about them once. I just wanted to know what I could about them."
Misato sighed. "I guess I can accept that. It's time for you to go home. You have school tomorrow."
Nagisa just nodded and left.

"We'll discuss that later. Shinji. Rei. Report back to base."
A crackle of static followed those words, as Gendo heard the last bit of the defeat of the Fifth Angel. Frowning, he sat back in his chair and ran his hand through his hair. A beeping from his desk signaled a conference with Seele. Pushing the button, Gendo resigned himself to having a bad day.
As soon as his hologram appeared, Lorenz Keele demanded, "The Fuji-Two? What was going through your mind, Ikari?"
"It was not my idea. It was Captain Katsuragi's idea to use the heat beam to force the Angel's AT field into a certain spot allowing the destruction of the Angel with a minimum of property damage. Unless you count all the fish that were cooked by the heat beam."
Mr. Green said, "The damage has been done. We might have to alter our plans."
Gendo said, "Captain Katsuragi has already told Captain Kyuu that the Fuji-Two is now part of NERV. A slight altering of our plans might be necessary, but keeping the Fuji-Two under our control will help complete our plans."
Mr. Red asked, "And what of Captain Misato Katsuragi?"
"Due to her quick actions in coming up with an idea to stop the Angel, she will be promoted to major," Gendo replied. "At any rate, our next bit of business concerns the Jet Alone."
Keele said, "It shall be taken care of. What of the Kara girl?"
Gendo sighed. "Her DNA is gradually being replaced by some unknown DNA. Her use of the mecha she calls Iczer Robo has been minimal. Beyond that, there is nothing special about her. As to the DNA, we are still trying to figure out what it is."
Lorenz Keele nodded. "Keep us up to date on her. Keele out."
Gendo sat in his now empty office and put his chin on his chin on his clenched fists. "This is going to alter my plans as well."
